Vehicle Detail

History: I purchased this car in December of 1978 , nearly 37 years ago. I transferred the title into my name, so there is a clear title in my name. I never used the car but instead stored it with intentions of restoring it someday. Age caught up with me and I realize I will never restore this car. The car has low miles of only 41,241 which is verified by the 1977 PA state inspection sticker, still on the car from 1977. At that time it had 40,413 miles. The title shows it has 41(thous) miles. I'm convinced these are the true miles. Unfortunately, 9 years on Pittsburgh's salted winter roads had really damaged the body. I purchased another convertible body that has the quarter panels and floors and I also collected 3 rust free doors. These extra parts will go along with the car . I was told the body I purchased came from a Florida car. There is no title for this parts car. It is solid but still will need some minor rust repairs (see photos) I prefer repairing rusted panels with original panels instead of reproduction parts. BODY CONDITION: As I described above the body is where the work is. But, most if not all the sheet metal is included. The inner rockers are rusted causing the doors to not fit properly and the floor where it attaches to the rockers is rusted. All the glass is original Ford glass and in very good condition. The door windows riser mechanisms have become detached from the glass - easy fix and you will want to use the other doors I am including. The convertible top is power operated and works fine. Obviously, it will need a new top covering. The convertible boot is included but a field mouse chewed a little half circle about the size of half dollar into the edge of it. Stainless around the windshield is very nice. Most bright work will need replated or purchase reproductions. INTERIOR CONDITION: Seats, dash, and door panels are very nice. The vinyl on the seats and door panels is soft and pliable. The dash covering looks perfect, soft and no cracks. Even the carpet is nice but new carpet is inexpensive so I would go with new carpeting. The metal parts at the bottom of the dash and the interior quarter panels will need repainted. DRIVETRAIN & MECHANICAL: The engine is a 351 V8 with a 2 Barrel Carburetor. After sitting for more than 35 years, I removed the gas tank and cleaned it, temporarily repaired the fuel line, installed a new fuel pump, changed the oil and oil filter and it fired right up. It's loud because the exhaust pipes are rusted off it, but the motor is strong - no smoke, no unusual noises, etc. After some shortcut brake repairs (it is only stopping on the front wheels), I am able to move the car around. It yard drives but is in no way suitable to go on the highway in this condition. It moves fine in forward and reverse - no slipping or noises. The radiator is blocked and it will overheat after idling a while. The car doesn't even drip anything that I noticed. In my opinion all this engine needs is a carburetor rebuild, general tune up items, belts & hoses. The radiator will need service, and the transmission should get new fluid and filter. Power steering works fine. Suspension and steering items are fine, but maybe new shocks should be installed. Rear spring on one side is weak but good ones are on the other body. The trunk has all the original equipment items - jack, spare tire, etc. The key wouldn't open the trunk, so I had to remove the lock mechanism. Parts of it are inside the trunk. That's why the bungee cord is on the trunk. This car is a project but well worth the effort. When completed it will be a very desirable and valuable low mile Cougar convertible. My reserve is very low. Bid to buy. Ask questions through the ebay system, but I will not disclose the reserve and there is no "buy it now". NO TRADES. If you can do the work, this is a great opportunity. Buyer is responsible for any shipping, but I will help with loading. Easy pick up for shipping as I'm located just 1 1/2 miles from Interstate route 70 near Pittsburgh and just 12 miles from the PA turnpike. US and Canadian buyers only. If you are local, you are welcome to come and see the car. Car and parts are sold as is, where is with no warranty or guarantee of any kind.
