Vehicle Detail

Up for sale today is my 1989 Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16V finished in rare Atlas Grey. 2 Previous owners in UK and 1 in Italy, I just imported the car into USA to pair up with my DiamondSchwartz BMW E30 M3. Next on the dream list of “80s flared fender cars” was an Audi 20v UR Quattro but unforeseen family circumstances force this sale. The car has only covered 142,xxx kilometers which is approximately 85,000 miles. The car has recently been overhauled and fully serviced with all new belts, spark plugs, lower ball joints and alignment. It has also been inspected by a Classic Car specialist in UK, who has stated that it is a very clean example which is in excellent structural condition and drives as it should. The car was imported from Italy in 1998 to UK and comes complete with gazillion maintenance receipts going back to the 90s. I flew over to Japan late last year in search for a suitable car but was unable to find while being there and in 3 months of my searching the auctions every day upon return to the States. This car from UK was a suitable candidate and in the color I always wanted. Most of these cars are modified to some extent and one of my main criterias was finding an unmolested example that was looked after. History This Lancia Delta Integrale was originally sold in Italy. It was then imported into the UK in 1998 and has since had just 2 previous owners in the following 16 years (excluding myself). This car has been well maintained by leading UK Lancia specialists such as Tanc Barrett, Walkers Garage, Deltaparts and Zagato Lancia Included is the original Italian service book and owner's manual, the original documentation wallet and a clear history check. It also has the 16v color brochure in English. It has a full Italian Lancia stamped service history in the service book, serviced at 13,104, 31,298, 46,914, 60,984 and 76,110 km at Lancia Organizzato. Full service receipts since in UK in full comprehensive lever arch folder. UK paperwork shows full maintenance and servicing in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 & recently 2014 when all belts and tensioner was renewed (see below). It comes with an extensive history file including uncountable receipts and invoices, previous MOTs for years 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013. Many old tax “discs” as they call them over there and reminders also for completeness. The car also comes with a RAC Engineers report which was undertaken on 24/05/2006 which was satisfactory in its findings. The documentation and history for this car is what any classic or enthusiast buyer will want. Cannot be faulted. Exterior This Delta is finished in its Atlas Grey metallic color and is in very good cosmetic condition. Being a 26 y.o. car it does have a few imperfections but nothing major really. All of the usual Lancia areas that are prone to corrosion or damage, such as the trailing edge of the roof, arches and scuttle are completely free from any sign of rust – and there are no cracks in the bodyshell, another classic Delta trait. There’s a tiny bit of surface rust on the leading edge of one of the doors, barely noticeable and easily fixable and a small quarter-size clearcoat peel area to the sunroof (no rust). All arches, scuttle, roof, etc. are solid and free from rust. Of course, it also has the aggressive-looking 16V hood and fender flares. The front bumper is mint in condition as is the bonnet and wings, free from any chips or scuffs. The rear bumper does have a few age related marks, but these do not detract from the appearance of the car and could be quite easily touched in. Very good bodywork all round. The Lancia's glass is in very good order, as are the weather seals. The alloy wheels have been professionally refinished at a cost of £480.00 by Walkers Garage (North Allerton) within the last few months and are therefore immaculate and as new. They have machine polished alloy outers with the gunmetal painted inners, no scuffs or scratches. Brand new genuine center caps also! The car has been professionally detailed recently upon arrival to US and took a Best Lancia award at a local Tutto Italiano show here @ Larz Anderson Museum in Massachusetts. Car was getting tons of attention. Interior The Lancia's interior is in very good condition. No dash cracks! The headlining has recently been professionally re-trimmed in grey alcantara. The only criticism is that the alcantara material on some of the door cards have sagged a little but are otherwise intact. A brand new set of HF mats; the carpets are mint. All the seats are Recaro, which are obviously comfortable and well padded (combination of velour and alcantara), adjust as they should. No rips or burns and are in good condition. The doors, hood and trunk open easily. I was going to order and install the Evo rear spoiler from Europe to complete the look but some unforeseen circumstances put that plan to a screeching halt….. The cabin is free from leaks, too, even after the car has been parked up for extended periods in heavy downpours. There are some creaks here and there when going over bumps. Overall, the build quality of these cars is definitely NOT to the standards of BMW\Mercedes\Porsche of the same vintage but that’s part of the car’s uniqueness. The key to this car is the driving experience it provides and not the comfort features or build quality. On the electrical front, surprisingly, everything works with the exception of gas gauge (needs a new sender). I just replaced both front windows’ motors\regulators. The distinctive 'Vegliaflash' roof-mounted LED stopwatch and clock also works, as does – and I'm told this is quite rare – the entire check light panel in the dash. This presents you with warnings for the likes of open doors, blown bulbs or mechanical issues such as coolant level or oil temperature. Please note the car has no in-dash radio\CD\tape player. I suspect it “disappeared” during its voyage from UK. I was looking for an unmolested car with no garish speakers screwed into parcel shelf or door cards…. Looks like I’ve got more than I bargained for J Mechanical In readiness for sale, the car was fully serviced by the last owner in UK (including new plugs and gaskets), with new timing belt, tensioner and ancillary belts all installed for peace of mind at a cost of £600.00. He also installed brand new rotors and pads on the front axle, alloy wheel refurbishment. All together, the car has had a comprehensive overhaul, in order to ensure it was performing as it should. All receipts kept. Upon arrival to US, I performed full alignment, replaced valve cover gasket, both oil pan gaskets (a known weak point), changed oil\fuel filter, replaced serpentine belt, most of the ignition components (plugs, wires, cap and rotor) and fixed some vacuum leaks here and there. I’ve spent roughly $3000 on the car between parts\labor\detailing upon its arrival to US. Car also has a fairly new center section and muffler as well as tie rod ends. The Lancia is in fine mechanical condition and goes, stops, steers and rides as it should. It starts practically instantly, even after being laid up after long periods, produces no smoke or bangs. It performs at the right temperatures and pressures, boosts hard and fast and behaves as it should. Prior to this recent work, the engine was rebuilt in August 1998 when imported with new big end bearings and all new belts fitted at 76,332 kms. The turbo was overhauled in July 2000 at 84,978 kms, new shocks in 2006, new master cylinders 2004/2008/2013, head gasket fault repaired -head skimmed and polished in 2007, clutch and clutch slave cylinder were replaced in 2008. The gearbox operates in a slick, comparatively precise fashion. The rest of the drivetrain and suspension is as it should be; there are no clunks or knocks, no errant vibrations or any binding, and the steering is taught and precise. The clutch take-up point is fairly high and I’m being told it’s not adjustable on these cars. Not sure how much life is left in this clutch but I have not noticed any slipping. I always dreamed about owning one of these (as well as E30 M3) as a kid growing up watching car’s success in rallying in Europe. I happen to work in the automotive aftermarket field (mostly with modern-day VAG products though), so I get to drive bunch of different fast cars, all the way to various 700-900hp Porsches and RS6\RS7s but I was totally blown away by this car’s performance considering its vintage. This must’ve been a real hoot back in 1989 doing 0-60mph sprints in 5.7secs. This is a quick example that is a real drivers car. No traction control, e-diffs and other modern-day nonsense here. Facts and figures Engine: Turbocharged and intercooled 200hp 1995cc DOHC 16v four-cylinder petrol engine with Weber/Marelli electronic ignition and fuel injection. Drivetrain: Five-speed manual gearbox. Four-wheel drive system with epicyclic center differential with viscous coupling lock. Torsen limited-slip rear differential 6 World Rally Championships on this engine\drivetrain combo design Summary This is a very good Lancia Delta Integrale 16v. If you're looking for a Lancia that you can use and enjoy totally legally here in USA, then this would be a fine choice. It is a turn-key car that's ready to be driven and it benefits from being properly and attentively maintained. It is by no means in concourse showroom condition and is sold in as-is condition with no warranty implied or written. I have been as honest as I can in this listing. I invite all the questions or viewings of the car (no tire kickers please) if you’re local around Massachusetts. As far as I know, this is the only Lancia Delta Integrale 16v for sale here in USA and there’s a VERY limited number of these cars on the road in US – you’re likely never to see another one on the road. Get ready to answer typical “oh, I didn’t know they existed over here”, “gee, what IS this thing?” and so on. You WILL be spending more time chatting away at the gas stations, guaranteed. I have clear MA title obviously. Some additional notes: For CA residents – please check your local laws in regards to emissions and registering Euro-market cars. I have no idea if you will or will not be able to register the car in CA and I can not be held responsible if you’re unable to register it. The car is listed for sale locally and I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time. All sales are final and the car is sold as-is, with no written or implied warranties. The BMW shown on some of the photos is NOT for sale. Actual VIN # is ZLA831SB000494270 (eBay doesn't accept it)
