Vehicle Detail
I have been a car collector for over 30 years. Started in the 80's and 90's with super over restored muscle cars, but have matured and realized the real value is in originality. What I look for now is "holy grail" cars, low mileage as close to original as possible. I keep all my cars in top condition. Every year in the spring, no matter how few miles I drive them, I take them in and have complete services done. When not in use they are on smart trickle chargers.Let me start by saying this car has 26,000 original miles. And it is actual correct miles. It drives unbelievably well. It is tight, has no squeaks or rattles. It feels like a brand new car, because in a sense it is almost brand new. I bought this 1987 325i convertible last fall from a man who collected jeeps. He had this car for a number of years in storage with his jeeps. He decided it didn't fit in with his collection, so he passed it on to me. I immediately brought it to my mechanic who specializes in 70's - 90's BMW's. I had him go through everything to make sure it was in 100% working condition. Due to mileage and condition it needed very little. All fluids were changed. Timing belt and water pump were done, due to age not mileage. Plugs, wires, and other normal maintenance items were changed. Always using original BMW parts where possible. So this car is 100% ready to drive. No issues nothing to fix. Zero problems. Every light, every turn signal, every mechanic part on this car is 100% working. In that sense it is like a brand new car. I like to go out to the garage, unplug my trickle charger and drive any of my cars whenever I want.As I mentioned earlier, I look for as low mileage original cars as I can find. This car is in incredible condition. The paint is in excellent, all original condition. Never any accidents or repaint of any kind. There are no marks, chips, cracks, hazing or discoloration. I can not overstate how new the paint looks. The chrome bumpers and grill are beautiful. Without scratches, marks or discoloration. They have that older chrome that can not be replicated with new rechroming. The trim work is all dark black and supple. No fading, checking or cracking. The rims are perfect. No curb rash. No marks. No road grime or tar. They look brand new. Tires, while not original for safety reasons, are period correct looking and have nearly 100% tread. All the Sigla glass, and plastic rear window are original and in excellent condition. The windshield even has the original "break in" instruction still on it. The convertible top is original to the car. It has two tiny holes the size of an eraser head on either side of the car where the previous owner "pinched" it when it was folded down. Other than that the top is dark black it has no fading or discoloration of any kind. I did not replace the top because it is the original one and is more valuable to a collector than a replacement. And besides this car never ever sees the rain, so the only time it goes out is when the top is down. The trunk is super clean. No marks or stains in the material. It looks like nothing has ever been in the trunk. All the tools, spare, jack are all there and in the proper place. The engine and engine bay show no sign of wear. Everything is super clean, rust and grime free. It looks like an engine that has only gone a few thousand miles. I hate it when I look at a "low mileage" car and under the hood it looks like it has gone 100,000 miles. Not this car. The interior is black leather. All very soft and dark. No wear spots on any of the bolsters. I only use leather conditioner, no armor all used. All the plastic and rubber inside is perfect. Mo marks, cracks or abrasions. All the graphics on the buttons look new. The door jambs are spotless. Every gauge works as it should. AC blows cool, not super cold but cool. The radio works perfectly. No static when you change the volume like so many of these. Computer works perfectly with all the pixels showing clear and bright. Look at the pedals, the knobs. All the places that show wear, there is none. Everything looks new. I have all the stamped books. keys, radio codes, radio brochure. I know I keep saying it, but I can't overstate how perfectly original this car is. Try to find one better for sale with lower miles. It does belong in a museum. If you watch these like I do, then you know that Porsche, Mercedes and BMW's are really becoming collectible. Five years ago you could have bought this car for under $10,000. Not any more. Collectors are buying up the lowest mileage eighties cars they can find. They are the new collectible cars. When was the last time you saw a muscle car go up in value. They are dead money. The big gains will be in eighties cars. This car belongs with a collector. Then why am I selling? I planned on keeping this one as my E30 collector car, so I made it as perfect as I possible could, but I found another one with even lower miles, 15,000 miles, and a removable hardtop. So I am keeping that one and selling this one. If it doesn't sell I have no problem keep both, especially the way they are going up in value. In a few years it will be worth twice what it is worth today.$1,000 non refundable deposit required within 24 of end of auction. No warranty expressed or implied.
