Vehicle Detail

2005, BMW Dakar - Checked out, and exceptionally clean. My Dakar is extraordinarily clean, and comes with a set of powder-coated Jesse Luggage. The ’05 Dakar is one of the most popular Dakars ever built. It’s the twin-sparkplug version with the Austrian-built Rotax motor in it. My bike has been very well maintained by a professional motorcycle mechanic. It’s low-mileage, at only 20,995. - I am the second owner and got it from a retired guy in Oklahoma. I kind of have the same problem he had… - Even though I’m a stout 70, it’s still too much for me. My loss is your gain. The guy I got it from bought it brand new, and always had it “dealer-serviced” with fresh oil and filters, every 3,000 miles - always with Mobil-1 synthetic. When I got it, I did the same. – It has a set of new NGK spark plugs, new K & N oil/air filter, radiator recently flushed, and replaced with new BMW coolant. Brakes flushed and new Dot-4 added. - All nuts/bolts/and fasteners were checked and either tightened up or (where necessary) torqued to factory specs. There are no leaks of ANY kind, ANY-where. Going with the bike is all my service manuals and documents. The ONLY blemish on the bike is a slightly scraped right pannier. Also, if I was going to keep it long-term, I ‘might’ put fresh tires on it, just for the ‘confidence-factor’ alone. I’d say there’s about 70% life still in them. I had the bike returned to ‘Factory Specs’ with new: -brake pads, front/rear -bearings, front/rear -spark plugs, (NGK-iridium) -K & N air filter -K & N oil filter -Mobil-1 Synthetic oil I added the following “after-market” parts: ($1,210) -after-market ‘D.I.D’ ‘gold’ chain - $110 -after-market “SuperSprox” rear sprocket - $125 -after-market “SuperSprox” front sprocket, with 17 cogs (for better mileage) – I get 60+ MPG at about - $ 55 70 miles per hour. -after-market light-bar with PIAA 1100X Platinum Lamps attached. - $275 -after-market ‘aluminized’ steel engine guard - $250 -after-market “Denali (extra-loud) horn - $120 -after-market MRA smoked windscreen with lip - $275 Here’s how “Motorcycle News” magazine (a motorcycle reference magazine) put it… “…Competent and confidence-inspiring, F650 Dakar has passion. The suspension’s sound and precise and you barely feel the weight when you’re tipping it into corners; it holds the road well. The gears “click in” and there’s zero play in throttle response. It’s a very stable ride; excellent in town and on the trails. The BMW F650 Dakar is a work horse and power house in one, neat package. With loads of torque, there’s power right through the rev range, taking you from town, to country to motorways with relative ease. The BMW F650's smooth delivery makes for easy riding and it’s tried and tested, providing practically effortless riding. A very reliable and inspiring motorcycle. Top notch, basically; with a sturdy body, great finish and excellent aftersales service, there’s not a lot to complain about on this motorcycle. Consistent and reliable, the BMW F650 Dakar probably has more mileage potential in it than the average rider. These motorcycles are built to last… and they do. It’s not a budget motorcycle, especially if you want to add any extras, but you’re paying for quality and, to some extent, peace of mind. Furthermore, the BMW F650 Dakar provides a lot of miles to the gallon and sits in insurance group 9, which won’t break the bank. A safe, robust choice, they hold their price well…” – Chris Myers 2005 BMW Dakar Specs The 2005 BMW Dakar - Over rough tracks; over sand dunes; through craggy gorges; and of course, through the concrete jungle of the city: the BMW F 650 GS Dakar always finds its own way - After all, it is the sporty version of the famed BMW 1150 GS.
