Vehicle Detail

This is a 1947 Studebaker M5 Pickup Truck - Customized - privately reconstructed/restored. It was fully reconstructed approximately 10-11 years ago: cabin was taken off frame and both frame and cabin were sandblasted. Every single bolt, nut, hose, and washer is brand new. It is not a 'back-to-original' reconstruction, however. We put in a Studebaker V8 w/four-barrel Holley carburetor, Studebaker automatic transmission, 12V alternator system, dual exhaust, and power steering! The frame was slightly modified by welding in supports for the V8 engine and transmission mounts. The original odometer was not touched...it still shows the original 60,144 miles prior to the full reconstruction. The interior design/headliner is NOT stock Studebaker. The headliner, kick panels, and door panels were made by us... it was quite the adventure building the headliner from scratch...but we like it and are pleased with the results! Although overtime some of the fabric glue has come loose a little bit...The seats are from another vehicle. We also put in some cabin thermal insulation/noise barrier. The rear bumper is not Studebaker...we had difficulty finding one, so instead we chose to put a Ford-like rear bumper on it. It fits quite well...although the driver side of the bumper is a little lower than the passenger side. We kept the original-sized radiator...however, to make sure that the Studebaker V8 doesn't overheat, we added an electric fan in the front of the radiator...this fan turns on as-needed, controlled by a sensor embedded within the radiator fins. All the instrumentation gauges work, although we never put in more than a few gallons of gasoline...so we are not 100% sure how accurate the fuel gauge is. The engine is strong and runs extremely well! The carburetor was rebuilt and fine-tuned last year. After this Studebaker was reconstructed, it was put into storage...where it's been sitting for the last 10-11 years. We did take it out every season and drove it around the property, but please understand that it never touched road!! This means that we do not know how this vehicle would behave/handle on the roads! We make no guarantees of operational capabilities! We would recommend to the potential Buyer to take it easy with this Studebaker.... slowly 'brake-in' this Studebaker.....take it for a 10 minute drive first...then next time for a 15 minute drive...etc..etc.. Here are the issues that we are currently aware of (see photos and video):Paint is chipped around the driver side doorPaint is scratched on top of the dashboardSmall scratches on the foot platforms (normal wear from stepping on them)Driver side front headlight chrome shrouds has pittings in it.Front vertical chrome piece in the middle of the grilles has a couple of tiny dentsThe dual exhaust is almost complete, just missing the end tailpipesThe power steering makes a little noise when turning the wheels, especially when the vehicle is stationary. When in Park, occasionally there is this bizarre 'whirring' noise...but it doesn't do it all the time. It only does this when it is in Park. The rear bumper is lower on the driver side, compared to the passenger side (it's a little crooked)No speedometer cable...hence the speedometer doesn't workMissing door latch/locking mechanismNo hand brake/parking brakeDirectional indicators added to the headlight chrome shrouds...this is not original stock... Slight surface rust of certain bolts, nuts, and portions of the frame due to sitting in storage... This privately reconstructed 1947 Studebaker pickup truck is in overall excellent condition! With just a little work, perhaps the interior can be restored to original stock, and then it can become a show-car! After reconstruction, the Indiana BMV gave us new VIN and paperwork! The VIN tag is attached below the driver's seat and also on the front driver side of the frame! This was inspected and certified by the police department. It doesn't run on dragon wishes and it won't give birth to unicorns!----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Does the hood close down properly ? In the photos....it looks like the hood is not closed down...A: Yes it does...in the photos the hood was not fully seated/closed down. On Jul-05-15 at 18:16:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Q: What's going on with the hood... Why can't it be closed all the way ??? A: When I took the photos I didn't fully shut the hood. I didn't realize that this would cause such a huge problem... Below is a picture showing that the hood indeed can be fully shut/seated. On Jul-06-15 at 11:22:20 PDT, seller added the following information: Q: Is the horn button cap/emblem missing on the steering wheel ? A: Yes. On Jul-06-15 at 18:41:29 PDT, seller added the following information: Q: Was this truck thoroughly sandblasted ? A: YES: Q: How did you make the headliner ? A: By heat-welding together plastic sheets and molding it against the shape of the cab: Q: It looks like the grille is bent... ? A: Some of the fins are very slightly bent sideways and a little backwards....which the angled-photos make to appear worse than they actually are. On Jul-07-15 at 12:52:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Q: If I get the truck, should I drive it home, on the highways ? Or get a trailer ? A: As mentioned in the listing, we would not recommend driving this truck to its new home. Having been sitting in storage for 10-11 years, with only small drives, it would be prudent to slowly 'brake-in' this Truck: let the first drive be for 10-15 minutes...then the next drive for 20 min...etc..etc..etc...Thus, we would strongly recommend a trailer to be used. On Jul-08-15 at 12:08:04 PDT, seller added the following information: Q: What are the dimensions of this truck ? A: Length = 185 in (15 ft 5 in) Width = 79 in (6 ft 7 in) Height = 78 in (6 ft 6 in)
