Vehicle Detail
First let me say that this is not my car. I am auctioning this 1966 Ford Mustang for a friend who doesn’t do eBay. The car is located in Rockland, Maine. If you would like or need more information please email me and I will do my best to answer your questions. As to myself, I am just a (65) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I recently retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and have worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback which is 100% with (1,123) transactions. Many of those have been muscle cars which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland and Australia. A Little About the 1966 Ford Mustang: Not much changed for Mustang in 1966. Most of the changes for 1966 were in the form of cosmetic refinements. The chrome bars that extended horizontally and vertically from the running horse were deleted on the 1966 Mustang's grille. A new three fingered rear quarter panel ornament was used. The lower rocker panel moulding became standard equipment, as did backup lights, and a chrome hood lip moulding. The side trim was slightly revised and a restyled gas cap completed the exterior changes. On the inside, the Mustang was treated to standard five gauge instrumentation, and "woven" vinyl seat inserts. The choices of available interior colors and styles increased to thirty four varieties, giving the buyer even more ways to personalize "their" Mustang. Ford broke the 1,000,000 Mustang mark in 1966--18 months after its introduction. Total 1966 U.S. Mustang Production: 607,568. A Little About Tasca Ford: There are few car dealerships in the country that gearheads recognize from coast to coast at the mention of their name. The great high performance dealers from the 1960’s and 1970’s are largely memories from the golden age of Detroit performance and the few that do survive are normal car dealers with an interesting history. Rhode Island’s Tasca Ford stands in stark contrast to that humdrum fate. These guys are still building, racing, and winning in high performance Fords, just like they were during the wild days of the “60s and early ‘70s. In 1967 Ford was missing the street performance boat in a big way. Almost 700,000 high performance cars were sold and Ford, the “Total Performance” company, was getting about 7% of that market. Loyal owners were unhappy, dealers were unhappy, and Hot Rod Magazine called Ford performance cars “counterfeit.” Bob Tasca was the youngest Ford dealer principal in America. He was operating in the smallest state of the union, Rhode Island. His first showroom was leveled by a hurricane months after being completed. In spite of it all, Tasca Ford had become the second largest Ford dealership in the country. When his mechanic blew up the 390 in Tasca’s daily driver Mustang, the recipe for the Cobra Jet was created straight out of the Ford parts inventory. By the time the early 1960’s came around, drag racing was starting to take the youth performance market by storm. The typical drag racing enthusiast was a young, domestic car buyer, with extra money in his pocket for upgrading the car he was going to drive off the lot. The problem that Tasca faced in the early 1960’s was that Ford did not have a model hot enough to stay with the Chevrolets. Chevy, by this time had made a strong move to capture the youth performance market and had begun developing a strong following amongst the hot rod set. This success resulted in parts sales and car sales skyrocketing. On the drag racing side Bill Lawton would go on to drive a series of A/FX Mustangs, and ultimately flip top funny cars under the Tasca banner. Their 1965 Mustang packing a 427ci cammer engine won the Winter Nationals, the NASCAR Nationals, and the Super Stock Nationals. Tasca Ford was now a nationwide brand. Who would have thought the little state of Rhode Island would turn out to be one of the hubs for Ford performance worldwide? But that is exactly what happened with the Tasca Ford Dealership. The same dealership that sold this 1966 A-Code 4-speed Mustang. You can see the video here: As you can see in the photos and video, this Mustang is quite nice. It appears to be virtually rust free having been restored about 17 years ago by the previous owner who purchased the Mustang for his wife. The car was driven occassionally and never taken out in bad weather. Add to that the original build sheet, original A-code 289ci engine, original 4-speed transmission, original rear axle and a factory Pony Interior car and you have a wicked rare find. However, it doesn’t end there. This particular 1966 Mustang was sold at Tasca Ford in Rhode Island, the top seller of high performance Fords in the country during the 60’s and early 70’s. With the original engine, tranny, rear axle, heads, intake, distributor and exhaust manifolds this Mustang is a star amongst many stars out there for sale. All lights and gauges work to include the heater, horn and radio. The engine was recently rebuilt about 200 miles ago and a heftier cam was installed to add to the power and muscle car sound. The exhaust and brakes were changed out and the Mustang starts, runs, stops, shifts and handles great. The undercarriage is very clean as you can see in the photos with only minor surface rust that I can see. The interior is in good condition but not perfect. The engine compartment is in very clean condition with no issues noticed. The tires are very good and the rims and hubcaps appear to be original to the car. Looking in the trunk, I notice it is very clean and virtually rust free. There is a spare but no jack assembly. I will mention again, for the reserve price this car is selling for, this Mustang would make a great investment and will not break the bank for the individual who wants to become part of the popular Pony car world.
