This is an exceptionally clean, dealer-serviced, 1991 Mazda Miata Special Edition with ONLY 3X,XXX original miles. The car has averaged less then 1200 miles per year, since being placed into service. That is extremely low considering most drivers put 12,000 – 15,000 miles per year on a vehicle. These cars are no longer considered “used cars.” It is no longer possible to go to the Kelley Blue Book or the NADA price guide to find the 1991 Miata SE. Some months ago, they crossed the magical threshold from used cars to collector status. Since then, the value on clean 1991 Mazda Miata SE cars has been appreciating. Hagerty.com values this car at about USD 8,900. See this link:https://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/HVT/VehicleSearch/Report?vbe=59010 Using the Hagerty grading criteria, I consider this Miata to be at the high end of Category Two. In 1991 Mazda produced and actual 3995 Miatas with the Special Edition package, this one is production number 2817. They were all painted British Racing Green and are considered a collector’s item. The engraved brass plates placed in all of these Special Edition cars state that the individual car is #x,xxx of 4,000 produced. This car was produced in February 1991. All 4,000 Special Edition Mazda Miatas came with the following options. Some of them did not have the limited slip differential but this one does. · British Racing Green with tan leather interior Nardi wood shift knob and hand brake handle· Black convertible top· Stainless sill rocker plates· Air conditioning· Limited slip differential,· Power steering· Leather-wrapped steering wheel· Factory original aluminum alloy wheels (NO curb rash or scrapes)· Cruise control· Power windows· Original factory carpeted floor mats (tan)· Limited Edition, engraved brass plate (#2817 of 4000), moved into glove box for security. My upgrades include: · Clarion CD / MP3 stereo (new in 2009) Plays MP3 CDs, and accepts iPod or similar input as well as a USB memory stick containing music.· Clearwater Door and Headrest speakers (new in 2009). Original speakers were shredded to pieces. These are AWESOME and handle the radio at maximum volume and bass without apparent distortion.· Center console, without an ashtray, but with two cupholders and a much larger storage compartment and a padded center armrest. “Take-Off” parts to be provided, include: · AM-FM/cassette stereo· Factory center console with factory ashtray· Cigarette lighter· Left sunshade (I removed it to provide better vision as I am tall) Aftermarket Parts to be provided, include: · Rubber all-weather floor mats· Touch UP paint (BRG)· Mazda Tonneau (zipper) Cover (tan)· Mazda Fold down roof boot / cover (tan)· Protective car cover (grey, non-waterproof) · Colgan Full nose bra and mirror covers (Black, never used, in box) Most Miata owners purchase these cars as a 2nd or 3rd vehicle. Many folks buy this car for their collection, or to drive on dry sunny days. They are normally the type of vehicle that gets maintained very well, driven during the summer and parked in the garage when not driven. By the way this car looks and drives, it really lives up to that example. THIS CAR HAS BEVER SEEN A SNOW FLAKE OR BEEN DRIVEN OVER A SALTED ROAD to the best of my knowledge and belief. When not being driven, this car lives in an underground garage. I never even drive it when rain is forecast, but I have been caught in rain several times. I obtained the car in 2009 from the daughter of the original owner. He purchased the Miata in the St. Louis area in 1991, when he was 81 years old. Sadly, he passed less than a year later. The car was not a daily driver for him. His daughter inherited the car and moved it to upstate New York. It literally sat under a cover in their one-car garage, except for summer and autumn drives, for about 18 years. Eventually, they decided they needed room for their motorcycles and sold the car to me. Since I obtained the Miata, it has lived in the underground garage of my VA condo complex. Mechanically The car drives great on the highway with cruise control set at 70 mph and it does great in town as well. There are no vibrations in the steering wheel at highway speeds and no abnormal drive train noise. The engine does not make any abnormal noises, no ticking or knocking. It starts right up every morning and idles very smooth when in neutral. The engine accelerates without any hesitation or jerking, the transmission shifts smooth through all 5 gears with no issues, and the clutch is very solid with no slippage or clutch chatter. The steering feels very solid and the suspension feels great when making a sharp turn. There are no issues with the car at all and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it to Florida and back. If you look around on ebay or any other site that sells vehicles, you will see some great reviews on the Miatas, these cars last a very long time. They have a huge following and people usually buy them and hang on to them for several years. I am selling this one because I simply “aged out” of my need for a premier two-seater convertible. Since original delivery, only the local Mazda dealer has worked on the mechanicals of this car. I continue to maintain that practice, and I have ALL SERVICE RECORDS from the original purchase invoice. Last month, the car passed both safety and emission inspections and had the annual oil service (oil and filter). I have this done even thought the car is rarely driven. The dealer technicians joke that the oil that comes OUT of the Miata is clean enough to put into another car as “new” oil.Whenever the dealer recommended that something be done, it was done. Both clutch hydraulic cylinders are new, as are most all rubber parts under the hood including, all hoses, belts, and ignition wires. The drive pulley belt was replaced two years ago, just because the dealer and I thought it was prudent. Shocks, brakes, clutch, water pump, and the roof are original. The tires are about 7 years old but have excellent tread, no crazing, cracks or dry rot. There are absolutely no issues with the car. EVERYTHING WORKS as it should. However, due to the age of the car, I am selling it as is. I simply grew tired of open air motoring and I am looking for a good home for this fine example of the first generation, revolutionary, Mazda Miata. So, I thought it might be useful to update this description so everyone sees what I stated to the several interested parties who contacted me directly. In the Picasa album (link above) most of the photos were taken several years ago, not too long after I obtained the car, and upgraded the console and sound system. When I took the photos, it was a beautiful, sunny day and the car could be shown in it's best light. However, and this is important, nothing is different from that time. I only drive the car about 1,000 - 1,300 mile each year from May to November, and only when it is dry. Everything looks the way it did then. Only the mileage is greater, after several years. There is no intention to mislead or deceive anyone. Also, as regards the Picasa photo album, the final 20 or so photos were taken when the car was recently on the dealer service lift when I had it in for it's annual oil change, and required state safety and emission inspections. My intention was to show that there is no rust on the underside, frame or suspension, that the exhaust system is like new and there is no body damage, beyond slight "curb rash" on the plastic under-valance panel below the air intake grill.Included in the last photos in the album are a night time shot of the instrument panel showing the current mileage (32,556) and the Special Edition brass plaque (which I moved to the glove box). This shows that the Miata is production number #2817 out of 4,000 and the car was built in February 1991. Using the older photos was just laziness on my part and not intended to deceive in any way. If this is a problem, please let me know and I will gladly re-shoot the "cheesecake" photos on the next sunny day. It has been cloudy and rainy here and I do not drive the Miata in the rain if I can avoid it.This is an exceptionally clean, dealer-serviced, 1991 Mazda Miata Special Edition with ONLY 32,556 original miles. Several folks have requested to come and test drive the Miata, so the actual mileage might be slightly higher. THIS CAR HAS BEVER SEEN A SNOW FLAKE, OR BEEN DRIVEN OVER A SALTED ROAD to the best of my knowledge and belief. When not being driven, this car lives in an underground garage. There is a photo of this parking space in the 12 photos accompanying the e-Bay listing. I never even drive it when rain is forecast, but I have been caught in rain several times. I have NEVER driven it when snow is forecast or once salt is applied to the roads. That is when the Miata is retired for the season.I obtained the car in 2009 from the daughter of the original owner. The Miata is simply a BLAST to drive! The steering feels very solid and the suspension feels great when making a sharp turn. The car corners like it is on rails. No alterations have been made to the suspension. There are no issues with the car at all that I am aware of, and I wouldn't hesitate to drive on a long distance trip.Since original delivery, only the local Mazda dealer has worked on this car.
