Vehicle Detail
No reserve auction for a bright red 2002 BMW R1150RTP. Everything works- period. The bike started life as a black and white police bike. I have no idea of its ownership history, but do know that it had dealer service checks in 2006 with 5,220 miles and 2007 with 11,176 miles (Carfax verified). Knowing the mileage that most police bikes accumulate (I've been a cop for 33yrs), I would have an educated guess that this one was either privately purchased for escort duty, or was owned by a small city where it was not used extensively. I purchased the bike from a private owner in Phoenix in 2013 with approx. 44k on the odometer. The owner transferred his title to me and it indicated approx. 36k miles at the time of his purchase. At the time I purchased, the odo worked, but the speedo was malfunctioning. After my first long trip I found a speedo that was close on Ebay (6,328mi less than the factory odo) and replaced it. A photo of the two speedos at the time of swap is included. I tell all of this to let you know that I feel the listed mileage of 50,XXX is correct for the chassis. Some of you BMW aficionados will note that the cylinder head covers are from a twin spark engine, not sold until 2004. I don't know if the heads may have been scrapped up at some point and replaced with a later model, or if the entire engine was replaced, all I know is it runs smooth and strong. The previous owner bought the bike for his wife and repainted it the current metallic red. It is a good, but not show quality paint job. In the sun you get a gold metallic fleck showing that is very nice. The previous owner also installed the RT touring bags to replace the normal, small police bags. He told me they had both come off of the bike (failed to secure them properly- not a malfunction with the bags), while on the road, so they had some abrasions. I sanded the abrasions out and painted the bags with a plastic paint. Some of the deeper gouged are still visible, but they look much better now. This bike has the servo-assisted ABS with aftermarket stainless steel brake lines- they function as they should and have tremendous stopping power. As with all of these, the servo motors wine when engaged, but they clamp down hard when needed. The bike has a Bill Mayer seat, which is, IMHO, one of the most comfortable out there and will cost you some serious cash if bought alone. A poly headlight protector has been added to protect that very expensive to replace headlight assembly. I listed this bike several months ago, with an oil leak and some problems with the left side hand controls (broken fast idle switch). The entire hand control has been replaced and the leak (turned out to be a hairline crack in the alternator support cover) repaired by replacing the cover. One of the mounting tabs on the left side fairing, low down on the left side behind the exhaust header, broke, and has been patched with some fiberglass- it is ugly, but you have to get down on your knees to see it. Tires are Pirelli's with about 50% tread remaining. I have replaced the bulky factory knee pads with some ribbed rubber, cut to the same pattern, that lays flat. I still have the OEM pads and they will go with the bike. As is usual for a bike this age that has seen some highway travel, it has a few rock chips in the paint, most of what you see in the photos is glare, however. There is a gouge in the cardan drive cover that I cannot explain- tool slip, maybe, but it is not deep and does not affect the bike. The transmission rattle when in neutral with the clutch out, so it is probably time to grease the splines- shifts easily and crisply. This is used bike- so no warranty is provided. I am confident, however, that you will like it, especially at the price offered. If you arrive to pick it up and are not pleased, I will return all of your money except for my actual Ebay/Paypal expense, so it is low risk for you. I have clear title in hand, title will only be exchanged when cash is in hand. Paypal for the deposit only, the rest in cash, no exceptions. I will not ship, but will be happy to meet your shipper at my house for pick up. Also, the airport is 2 miles from my house, so I would be glad to pick you up so you cab drive it home. Test drives only with proper equipment helmet/gloves and after cash is in my hand- you damage it, you bought it. BTW, the wet spots on the cement in some of the photos are water from washing the bike....On May-29-15 at 08:08:45 PDT, seller added the following information: This morning I found a single drop of oil under the bike. I do not know if it is excess oil from before the leak was repaired or some other issue, but I want any bidder to be aware of all I know about the bike. I drove the bike about 30 miles in one ride after the repairs (10days ago). It has been parked since and the drop of oil fell within the last 2 days.
