Vehicle Detail

!!!!ATTENTION!!! PLEASE READ THIS FIRST!!!! I am setting this auction up initially as a "fixed price" sale. If anyone wants to buy it at the listed price, go for it. Assuming I don't get that price, I will re-list the car for a 10-day auction at the conclusion of this listing. This is to allow any serious buyers the time for you to do your due diligence, get all your questions answered, investigate transportation costs, arrange financing, convince your wife you really need this car. Some cars have been called the Holy Grail of hearses. This one actually is. If you are looking for a hearse, the 1959 Miller+Meteor Futura is at the top of your list. 1959, the year Cadillac went over-the-top with tailfins. The exact model used in both Ghostbusters movies. Make it into an Ecto replica!Same year as the car in Harold and Maude. If this car doesn't turn every head at your local vintage car cruise, you need to find a new cruise. Restore this car as a hearse, use it for funeral work or as a limo for the prom. Need room for your surfboards, or your string base? room to spare! Socially inept? You will be the most popular guy every Halloween, other than that, you're on your own. Hate your HOA? This car will REALLY piss them off! Want to cut the roof off and put a camper on? Get lost! Want to flip it for a profit? This car should be worth anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000 restored! Any other hearse from the tail-fin era will cost you just as much as this car to restore (interior, paint, bodywork, mechanical), and you will almost assuredly be underwater. With this car, you have a realistic opportunity to come out ahead. The last comparable car I have seen sold was a 1959 Eureka Combination sold at the Bullock car auction in Nebraska last November for $19,000. That car was engine-less and incomplete, and it's a less desirable model. Another 59 M+M sold here in 2012. This car is complete, with all the impossible-to-find trim, and it is running, able to start and stop under it's own power. The correct, original engine and transmission were recently used to power my 61 M+M on the roads of Colorado, and made the annual trek up into the mountains to the hearse parade at Frozen Dead Guy Days in Nederland (that's a real thing). This engine has been re-installed in the car. For a youtube video showing the engine running, go here. Yeah, I'm no Spielberg. All the curved rear glass, almost impossible to source, is present, and in good condition. There is a brand-new windshield, still in it's shipping crate, that will go with the car. For a complete gallery of photos, go here . For more details and restoration resources, go here . If you don't see something, just ask. It's there, I will point you to the correct images. The car was fitted with air conditioning when new, something you never see in hearses of this vintage, as it wasn't a factory option. This car was originally bought by a funeral home in Texas. It then moved to New Mexico, which is where I purchased it. Some of the original documentation is present and will accompany the car. So what's the bad? Rusty floor pans. Certainly the most common problem with all hearses, and this car is no exception. You will need to replace them. Same with the dash pad. There are other spots of rust that will need to be addressed in the doors, and the taillight trim. The car has plenty of surface rust, but this will be easily removed by media blasting. they used very heavy-gauge steel, so with careful blasting, you have a very solid body to work with. check the gallery pics closely!Interior is complete, but the seats are 55 years old, and suitable only for patterns. The head-liner and interior/door panels are complete, and usable for patterns. All of the curved glass is in good condition, including a new windshield. Some of the flat glass will need to be replaced (a new driver's window is included) Any good auto glass shop should be able to cut new windows. All of the rubber weather-sealing needs to be replaced. The rear window has been removed in order to source this rubber. The rear window is shown in the listing pictures, as is the crated windshield. Interior metal trim is all there, and the aluminum pieces will polish nicely. Curtain rods have rust, you can fabricate new, or have these re-chromed. The horn ring is there, but broken. A reproduction ring is available. Which brings us to chrome. No car on earth has more chrome than a '59 Caddy. All of the chrome trim (with the exception of the horizontal tail-fin trim) should be usable or suitable for re-chroming. there are many reproduction parts available. new note : after looking closer at the chrome, I believe it is in better condition than I originally thought. there doesn't appear to be any flaking or pitting (other than the on the trim pieces mentioned), only polishing scratches. I believe all the chrome can be polished and will be close to perfect! Rear wheel arch skirts are present, and in good condition. They are not shown in the listing pics, but there is a pic of them in the linked gallery, along with the 4 hubcaps (one dented). Mechanically, the car is complete, and the engine runs great, the transmission shifts and all gears work. Brakes work. The engine will need a complete overhaul, and the brakes and suspension will probably need to be refurbished. Yeah, the car is low mileage, 67,000+, so what? it's hauling around a 6500# car! It's a 56 year old car! If you were this old, you would need a refurb too! 390 caddy engine parts are readily available, many at your local car parts store. The tires have zero miles on them, and are rated for 2000# load each. I can put the successful bidder in contact with a transportation service that specializes in hearses, and an excellent local mechanic should you decide to put the car in drive-able condition. The car is sold with the understanding that it can be driven on and off of a transporter, period! International buyers will need to verify importation requirements, and international shipping for the car. Car is sold FOB Louisville, CO. All arrangements are between buyer and providers. I will not install the windshield, or provide any additional mechanical work.
