Vehicle Detail
(See the bottom of this listing for free antique goodies) According to the Florida DMV, this truck has been in Florida nearly all of its 86 years, in the citrus-rich part of the state. I found it in Texas (somehow it escaped Florida for one of its 86 years) and was thrilled to pick this up coming home after a long deployment. My wife and I have had more fun in this truck than any other vehicle. We go to the drive in and park backwards, with two lawn chairs in the back we have the most comfortable seat in the house. Everything about this truck is amazing. All of the mechanical have been spruced up including a premium rebuild by the only shop in the country that only does Ford Model A's (Bentley "Benny" Bohanan in his garage in Maysville, GA, right next to Mike's Affordable Model A Parts.) Wait 'til you hear this engine purr at a 200 rpm idle. Benny put hardened valves, electronic ignition, and a no maintenance water pump. We kept the look 100% (that's the way I like it) and added a little technology to ensure it would stay trouble free. Only about 325 miles on that rebuild, breaking that engine in gently. Original 6 volt system, horn honks (or AhOOOOGa's) lights all light and taillights come on. (CHECK out Benny Bohanan's by searching his name or memorial for the best MODEL A ONLY shop in America (or the world!) Benny also installed a premium radiator. The only addition I would make to this truck is to replace the throttle return spring which functions but is not as springy as it should be, so I added a helper spring in a ten second installation. The drive train, steering, suspension are all 100% ready for your cross country or cross town trip. This sweet old truck still wants to work and draws a crowd at the local Home Depot when we pick up lumber with it. Speaking of lumber, have you seen these freshly build trucks with the wood body that a week ago was hanging on a lumber rack? I see lots of skill in these rebuilds but they just look like newly built replicas to me. There is absolutely nothing like the patina on an old, well built, hand crafted wood body. That is what draws a crowd at a car show. I go just to look around and I get stuck in the parking lot with people wanting to know about this truck, amazed that this 86 year old man (this truck is a he) still wants to get out and work. I used this truck to demonstrate blacksmithing circa. 1929 and folks go nuts over it, believe me. The ash body is amazing. I challenge you to build a body like this today. Body's in great shape both wood and metal. You will never find ash that is this hard with perfect straight grain. I am a woodworker and kept looking for some ash like it in case I needed to repair something. Guess what? Couldn't find any like this and didn't need it because after 8 years with this truck there isn't anything to fix. Note the "stop light" taillight on the back that actually says, "stop." Model A enthusiasts keep making me offers but that light is staying put. The hardware is original blacksmith-made iron with square nuts and hand made threads. They have a look that along with the patina of the wood tells you this truck is the real thing. This one has the two spare tires and wheels and a very rare door design that allows you to open the doors without hitting the spare tires (total of six tires and wheels) with this antique fun machine, though I have never had a flat tire with this truck. All tires in good condition. Mechanical brakes are adjusted and stop very well. What other vehicle can you drive wherever you like, whenever you like for as long as you like and it will go up in value? Psst, makes a great TAX DEDUCTION as a business vehicle for advertising and you'll recoup the original price in a short time. Moving overseas forces this sale. I put $5000 into the best rebuild money can buy so it would always start, always run and do so safely and without much maintenance. Now you can swoop in and get a bargain. Worst case is this truck goes into storage for a few years and I get back, fill the tank and crank that motor and driver years. This truck will out last all of us! I am going to include restored 1930's floor jack, a WEAVER NEW WAY, to add to your collection and all of the original ford tools under the seat, plus the little flag holders and spare parts I have in stock, including a beautifully restored screw jack which works better than the jack on my 2010 pickup truck. Included is an aluminum 1930's add-on heater, which we haven't used much in Florida. Also, included is a "wolf whistle" which makes this crazy chirping sound when you pull on a cord - runs off engine pressure and it will also get the attention of everyone in the area. I have added the brass/bronze search light that could be fitted to the back of this truck, another or a hot rod. It is very cool and I am estimating a vintage of 1920's as it was with a 1919 tow rig that was fitted on a Model A. Also, including a vintage battery charger which I have been unable to figure out who made it and when. I'm not going to inventory them all for you here as I am depressed enough about saying goodbye to my faithful time machine as it is. Good bidding and I am hoping that our beloved toy will land in caring hands. 5% of the final price will go to the WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT and do great things for veterans who deserve our helping hands.
