Introduced in the fall of 1967 as a replacement to the 250 series of cars, the Mercedes-Benz 280 class was introduced. The 2.8 litre straight six engine proved to be one of the companies most robust and reliable engines ever to come out of the House of Mercedes-Benz. The 280SE Sedan and Coupe were Mercedes’ most elegant offerings were the last of the true hand built cars. The Coupe’ version was a pillarless two door 4 seater that offered air conditioning, power windows and full wood, leather and chrome top to bottom. These elegant Coupes’ were only made in 2.8 form until 1971 with a total of 3797 made.
European Motor Studio is proud to offer this 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE Coupe’ finished in Silver Metallic with Charcoal leather interior. This 280SE Coupe’ left the Mercedes production line in 1969 and was sold new to its first owner in the West coast. This 280SE Coupe’ has had one repaint in its life and still shows well. The paint is not perfect, it does show some age but there are no areas of rust, damage, or fade. The chrome bumpers have been removed and re-plated along with the chrome windshield and rear window surrounds. The rest of the chrome is original and still in good condition with some pitting and hazing. Both front and rear windows have been removed from the car and both rubber gaskets have been replaced with factory correct gaskets. The rest of the body rubber on the car is still in good condition. The original leather interior shows very well and still has a nice very nice feel. The leather does show some signs of age and light stress marks but no tears or heavy cracks (the back seat on the upper shelf shows cracking and shrinkage as seen in the pics). The carpets look to be original and still show very well with no tears or stains. The wood appears to be original and still show nicely retaining a good red/brown color. The headliner is all original and still shows well along with all of the original trim pieces and plastics. This 280SE starts right up and idles very well on its own. It does not smoke or leak anything and shifts into all of its gears without any problems. The transmission shifts well and does not show any signs of slipping or grinding. The brakes feel solid and do no pulsate or fade. The steering feels good and solid and other than a very slight pull at about 70-75mph it does not have any vibrations. The suspension feels good and solid and does not float or clunk. All of the electrical in the car appears to be operating as designed including the windows, interior and exterior lights and dash lights. This SE Coupe’ does come with its original jack, Mercedes keys, original owners manuals, warranty books, dealer books, car care book, service manual and original Mercedes pouch. There are no signs of any rust on the car and the undercarriage looks nice and solid and clean. This is a great opportunity to acquire a nice clean driver quality Mercedes-Benz SE Coupe’; one of the last true hand built Mercedes-Benz.
