1976 Volkswagen Westfalia Pop-top C'mon Get Happy! 1976 VW Westfalia Pop-top Campmobile Up For Sale is a lovely Volkswagen Westfalia Pop-Top Bus. This campmobile features a sink, ice-box, folding bed, cabinets, stove, new canvas pop-top tent, plus a list of other cool features! It's very clean inside and it runs excellent - you'll be impressed. The bus is a blast to own, drive, and explore nature with. This Westy is a real crowd-pleaser and it will make you and everyone else in its presence smile. It's ready to go; all it needs is a loving owner who appreciates these well-engineered and cleverly designed VWs...they're the original SUV! Over the decades, many VW Buses have unfortunately fallen prey to neglect, accidents, modifications, or were just simply driven into the ground. Not this example though; it's a survivor. After nearly 40 years, this classic still rides proudly in the essential Volkswagen tradition of being a simple, well-engineered, and economical vehicle. The Westy's exterior looks decent and clean as the pictures show, but it's an old paint job. There are some dings and little dents here and there from the years. There are also numerous paint chips that have been touched up. The original color of this VW was that famous '70s bright green. If this bus were brought back to its factory color, it would be one fabulous ride. This bus deserves it, since the mechanicals are well sorted as is the interior. A return to the factory color would complete the package! Performing a respray on this bus should be straight-forward, as the door jambs and other painted interior areas have never been sprayed. They still show the factory green paint, and it's in great condition. No painting of the inside would be necessary. The exterior panels and underside of this Westy are dry. The body has some areas that show paint bubbles, most notably the common areas, including the front nose. The front, right corner, near the bumper has bubbles in addition to some around the turn signal lenses. I do not see areas of rust where the metal has corroded through or there are holes. There is some damage to the left bottom near the rear wheel, where the panel is crumpled. Previous owners made holes to engine decklid and near left tail-light assembly for some strange reason. Bumpers are straight and all doors close easily. Floorboards and underside are very dry and straight. No need for repair or replacements! Mechanically, the Westfalia is wonderful. With the stock fuel injection and 2.0 motor, the feel is more "modern" and the motor has much more power than its predecessors. This Westy runs excellent and is very dependable. Steering is smooth and precise; brakes are as they should be; the transmission, clutch, and shifting work effortlessly. The idle is smooth, and the motor always starts right up. In fact, the bus just passed the strict CA smog test with flying colors. This VW has always been regularly maintained. I have a bunch of records from the past 20 years, plus the original owner's manual. I've recently driven the bus all over our countryside. It's gone on several little excursions, from the coast to local campsites. It's so much fun driving in areas where nature is prevalent. No wonder a classic VW Bus can easily be part of your lifestyle. The interior is in very nice condition. It is complete, clean, and fairly original. Front and rear seat cushions have been reupholstered recently. Gauges work, as do signals and windshield wipers. Horn and heater are not currently functioning. There are a couple small cracks in the windshield. SONY CD stereo sounds great and makes driving the bus quite enjoyable. This bus is a self-contained camper that's unique and very functional. The fun you'll experience is beyond words, and is something you'll have to find out for yourself. Pop-top opens easily, offering walk-around versatility and fresh air when out camping. Canvas is in excellent condition and features zip out windows and screens. Very cool, indeed. Upper bunk cushions are original and in excellent condition. Everything "up top" is clean. Dining areas were greatly improved on later Baywindow Westfalias. Included were a stovetop w/ burners and hookups to outside power sources, such as electricity and water. The original cabinetry and closet space are still intact. The refrigerator power is not functioning, but the compartment can still be used as an ice-box. Sink drain and pump for internal water reservoir are disconnected. The electric motor is still there, but it needs to be hooked up and a new sink drain installed. The burners and propane tank work, as shown below. A classic VW Bus presents a good value and opportunity in the world of collectible automobiles, as they are quite sought after, especially if it's a Westfalia pop-top, like the one offered here. This one's not perfect, nor has it been restored, but this 1976 "survivor" is a great weekend driver that shows a lot of promise and has been cared for. It’s just right for someone who’s always fantasized about owning a vintage VW Bus, or sold theirs years ago and has regretted it ever since. This tangible investment is safer than the stock market and is something your family & friends can enjoy, again and again. Why not mix business with pleasure?
