Vehicle Detail
Why drive a ragged-out econobox when, for about the same money, you can cruise in style in a genuine American Icon? I bought this Fiero new for the wife in 1986 from a Maryland dealership, and it was her daily driver until 2000, at which time it was “retired" with 100,000 miles on the odometer. It’s been garage-kept since 1991 and has always been properly maintained. The wife used the Fiero primarily as a commuter car around the Washington Metro area for four years before we relocated to South Carolina. It has been exposed to several Maryland winters. Even though the Enduraflex panels will never rust, I had Ziebart applied to the exposed metal components of the car when it was brand new. Rust is not an issue. Wife is a gentle driver and tended to baby the car. It was the victim of a minor rear-end collision at one point, at the left rear quadrant. No body damage, but the bumper support did it’s job and collapsed about a half-inch inward. It’s barely noticeable and could be a cheap fix for a good body shop. The paint is all original and still has a nice shine, but it is almost 30 years old and has two minor scratches. No cracks or tears on the interior, although the headliner is sagging a bit. The four-cylinder motor is what they used to call "peppy". It's dependable and gets decent mileage. All recalls have been worked. By the time this car was produced, Pontiac had solved the first-year production issues. The seats were recovered in 2005 by a professional upholstery shop with OEM material, and the clutch has been replaced by a Pontiac dealer. Successful buyer will receive complete maintenance history. I drive the car occasionally and change the oil periodically, and the tires were replaced last year. I have no hesitation to take the car to Atlanta, a 6 hour round trip, where it always gets appreciative comments. I’m getting rid of it because I've entered the "downsize" life stage. I ordered the car with minimal options, in the spirit of keeping to the essentials, in a sports-car sense. No cruise, no power windows, no remote trunk release. A/C of course, but it currently needs recharging. And the wife cajoled me into a sunroof somehow. Everything is there including the owners manual, jack, and the wind deflector for the sunroof. This car can be fun, inexpensive daily driver or a valuable addition to your stable of truly unique automobiles.
