Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a reasonably good condition Ranchero. This car starts, runs, drives and yes I have driven it down the road, around the block and around in the yard but have not driven it on a regular basis. I would advise to trailer it to your location to give it a full check up before setting out on the road. BODY: Clear coat is peeling off. Has a few spots where there is rust bubbling under the paint. I have only found 1 rust hole and it is about 1/4 of an inch in diameter. Located on the drivers side roof. It still has all the factory chrome on it. There is one piece missing under the rear window at least I think there is a piece of chrome that is supposed to go there. It does not appear to have ever been wrecked but shows signs of body work or bad paint prep on the passenger side bed area. I don't see any rust around the wheel openings or in the lower fenders but can not guarantee there is not some under the paint. Both doors, hood and tailgate open and close and the latches work. The hood is a little stiff opening and closing but does not bind up anywhere. The tailgate does not quite line up like it is supposed needs adjusted. INTERIOR: features full set of factory gauges. Oil pressure, water temp, amp's, tachometer etc. When running, the gauges all appear to be in working order. Also features an AM/FM/8 track radio. Has AC but it does not work. The radio works, and the lights, turn signals, brake lights all work. The dash pad has cracks in it but no big chunks torn out. Original steering wheel etc. It has power windows but is missing the electric motors in both doors and I'm not sure if the switches are on the door panels or not. Door panels have been removed and are behind the seat. The seats are Ford seats but not original. I don't know what car they came out of but they look nice, no rips or tears in them. Headliner is good, carpet is good but needs cleaning. No floor mats included. ENGINE: 351 big block family. Could be a 351w, 351 m or possibly a 400m I'm not 100% sure. I will add good photos of the engine so the smarter Ford guys and gals can figure it out and tell us The fuel pump bolt pattern is 2 bolts, 1 on top and one on bottom. Not side to side. Engine has 8 bolts holding the valve covers down. Those 2 details are supposed to help determine engine. It has no known modifications to it other than what appears to be an after market Holley 2 barrel carb. Original steel intake, steel exhaust etc. The engine starts, runs, does not over heat or make any strange rattling smoke or other noises. Does not leave any fluids in the driveway. Carries good oil pressure when started. It left a black mark on the pavement in front of the house about 15 ft long when I stomped on the gas. It does take a few minutes to warm up and hesitates a little before taking off. IT had not been started since before Thanksgiving 2014. I started it up today 1/19/2015 poured a little gas in the carb and it fired right up. Cut it off, it started right back up. Moved it around in the yard to take pictures. Started it up, let it run for a while then parked it back in the back yard. TRANSMISSION: 3 speed automatic. IT shifts through all 3 gears and reverse like it should. No leaks or other known issues. I don't know type or model the transmission is. REAREND: Looks like a Ford 9 inch but I'm not sure. I don't believe it to be a posi unit due to it only spinning one wheel in the grass when i moved it around the yard. OTHER: Has 4 matching aluminum rims, not original to the 1979 year. Tires hold air and have great tread but the left rear needs replaced. IT is showing signs of a broken belt. Brakes work. Needs new wiper blades. Would love to keep the car but I have other plans. If you have any questions about the car feel free to ask and I will answer as best as I can. I would not advise trying to drive the car as it is given the condition of the left rear tire, the car has no spare and no jack included.
