Vehicle Detail
The Munch Magnesium front brake is one of the three holy grails of BMW collecting (the other two being the Rauch Double bucket & a Hoske ISDT type high exhaust). Here we have the first one - which I can tell you from experience is pretty much the hardest to find. If you are reading this page then you already know about the Munch motorcycle - a very rare and exclusive hand built machine from the 1960-1970s. Munch front brakes were also available separately to racers and other performance oriented riders. I had a Munch wheel back in the 1990s, but it went along with the bike that it was intended for. Back about 10 years ago I starting watching the web, both here and in Europe, for another wheel. I searched for several years without luck. Then one day I got an email from someone who I had known for 30 years, who owned a Harley shop just a few miles from my house. He wrote and asked me if "...any of my German bike friends would be interested in a Munch wheel." Yes, me! My friend has been racing bikes since the 1960s. One year at the Daytona races, he purchased this Munch front brake assembly from Floyd Clymer, who was the importer of Munch motorcycles, and he was also publisher of CYCLE magazine. My friend said that the Munch brake was more powerful and more predictable than any other brake then on the market - even the Fontana brake, or Lockheed racing disks. He loved it. All the time I had known him, he never mentioned that he had this wheel sitting up in his attic. I had this brake set aside for a someday project, but I don't think that day is ever going to come, so I have decided to sell it. I have a lot of money in this brake, and if I can get it back I'll let it go. Trades up or down considered, but these need to be agreed upon in advance of any sale. Please ask all questions before bidding. Payment by Check or Bank Transfer only. Postage Additional. Overseas bidders are welcome, but I can not give any shipping quotes in advance of the sale. I'll try to box it and get a weight in a few days, as soon as I find a sturdy box. . See my other auctions for additional rare parts and holy grails! Good luck bidding!
