Vehicle Detail

Up for auction: A black-on-black 1976 Aspen R/T. This car is being sold AS-IS, local pickup ONLY. The buyer MUST provide a trailer, ramp-truck, or other means of transport. While I did have it running several months ago and moved it to where it is currently parked under it's own power, this is not an operable, road-worthy vehicle as it sits. Description: An original R/T [A57] and SuperPak [A66] option Dodge Aspen. I've owned it since bought used in California in the mid-1980's. Factory equipped it had a 318-2v engine, A-998 Torqueflite automatic transmission and 7-1/4" rear axle. The fender tag says: A57 R/T package A66 SuperPak package (deck spoiler, louvers, air-dam, "Tuff" steering wheel, etc.) B41 power fr. disc brakes C16 ctr. console, floor shift C56 bucket seats E44 318-2v engine D32 A-998 torqueflite auto trans. N95 CA emissions R21 AM/FM radio R31 f&r speakers The dash held a Craig 8-track when I took ownership. To this day, a junky dealer-installed sunroof still hardly even pretends to keep the overhead elements out. When I bought it the odo showed over 90k miles . As things wore out or broke I sought to upgrade rather than just replace parts. Eventually all of the following made its way onto the car: 8-1/4" rear axle replaced the styrofoam-weak 7-1/4" 11" cop car rear brakes (10" stock) S16 XHD cop car rear suspension S16 rear swaybar S16 Volare cop car front swaybar steering box from M-body Fury police car solid metal police/HD subframe-to-unit body isolator kit the front "K" member itself was swapped for a 1977 unit and T-bar bushings replaced big front disc brakes from a Cordoba 15x7" XHD/cop car wheels with Cordoba/Magnum center caps (14" wheels no longer fit with the larger B-body front brakes) E58 360ci 4bbl HP engine. HD radiator & cooling from a 360 Roadrunner Direct Connection "orange box" ignition and distributor Thermoquad rebuilt with Carter "Strip Kit" headers & dual mufflers D24 np833 4 speed OD manual transmission (pedals, floor-hump& associated hardware from a Volare) A38 police package 120MPH speedometer A38 police package oil pressure gauge in place of clock Autometer mini-tach & manifold gauges on dash Condition: Rust. Look closely at the pictures. Then add to that the Flintstonemobile holes in the floor from water leaking through the awful aftermarket sunroof. I didn't drive this car much after relocating to the Northeast, but the Chrysler F-bodies were legendary for rusting away in the mere presence of mildly humid air. Both driver & passenger side floorpans have holes from water from the sunroof. The one on the driver's side is not small. The trunk and rear wheelwell areas are actually somewhat solid, most of the rot seems due to the square hole in the roof. But since we are talking about the Aspen/Volare series, expect rust everywhere, including places not visible in the photos or explicitly mentioned. The fuel tank has pinhole leaks and will not hold gas. The fuel pump doesn't work anyway. (fed gas from a gravity-drip last time it ran.) The left-side rocker panel is stove-in and the driver's door was replaced. All the SuperPak plastic has been removed, save for the 1/4 window louvers. They are included in a box, with some spares I salvaged from the Roadrunner that gave up the 360. I never had the front air-dam or original rear spoiler. There's a deck spoiler from the orange Roadrunner included, but all the plastic is rough/cracked & needs repair. The vacuum can for the windshield defroster door broke & was mangled in desperate attempt to hold it closed manually with pliers one very foggy night long long ago. There's apparently a bad ground in the steering column, the turn signal must be on for the starter to crank. The transmission pops out of 1st gear & almost certainly needs rebuilding. The mufflers are rotted through, at least one front brake caliper is seized and the front tires held air just long enough for me to take pictures. (I do have the 4th XHD wheel not seen on the left rear. it is flat but included.) Battery dead. Carpet is lint. and PETA will probably lodge a protest against the dislocation of so many mice from their habitat here. Actual mileage is unknown; as noted above, instrument clusters have been swapped, and eventually the speedometer cable came in too-close proximity with an exhaust collector and melted/broke. !!!Potential buyers should assume every major mechanical system on this vehicle is in need of overhaul!!! The auction also includes a mostly complete but poor-condition M55 T-bar roof assembly (pictured). Both T-top panels are badly damaged & need replacement glass, most of the plastic trim is rough/cracked & the weatherstripping is bad. I can't find one of the A-pillar reinforcements. I suspect it's the same part used in M-body cop cars & maybe not too hard to find. Other knickknacks: I salvaged a D91 SureGrip differential for the 8-1/4" axle. It comes with both 3.23:1 and 3.55:1 gearsets. There's a factory ATF cooler from one of the scavenged A38 cop-car Volares. Also an unused C-body pitman arm for a never-realized Challenger T/A-AARCuda-style fast ratio steering experiment. Title: At the time I moved to this state, there was _no_title_requirement_ for vehicles of 10 years age or older. That has changed since this vehicle last had an active registration. The bottom line is that I can't say for certain whether titling this car would be simple, or a DMV quagmire. You won't know until you try. I'll help the best I can at this end should the Gub'mint decide to make an issue of it. Terms for Payment & Delivery: A $500 deposit is required within 3 days of auction close. Full payment shall be made within 7 days. Removal of the item must take place within 21 days of auction end! This item is also available locally. I reserve the right to end this auction early, offer the item to a local buyer, or make a second chance offer to another bidder if the auction winner cannot meet the terms of the auction. (And at least twice a week someone stops to ask about buying this thing.) Responsibility for removing the vehicle and included items is entirely that of the winning bidder. I will do my best to accommodate the winning bidder's arrangements, and be available for scheduling and sorting the details of the pickup. I will not pack, or ship, *anything*. Currently in the dash is a cassete-eating 1980's era Kenwood tape player, with a pair of crusty Jensen 6x9's in the rear shelf. Only U.S. buyers are eligible to bid. Please don't bid unless you intend to buy the item and follow the auction terms. Bidders with under 5 feedbacks or negative feedback must contact me before bidding. Bids from ZERO feedback accounts setup 2 days ago from Bahrain (you know who you are) will be cancelled! Auction tampering by shills, phantom bidders, and distressed Nigerian princes will not be tolerated. Thanks again for looking!
