Vehicle Detail

I'm selling a one owner, accident free, rust free, 100% original 1988 Pathfinder SE that's lived it's entire life here in sunny, dry Palm Springs, California, as verified by the attached Autocheck vehicle history report. I just bought this sharp little SUV to replace my "Greyhound Bus," as friends call it - a.k.a. a gas guzzling white Suburban I use to transport my three rescued ex- racing greyhounds around in. Upon bringing the Pathfinder home, however, I discovered a major problem: only two of my dogs fit in it at a time. That won't work because these dogs are like the three musketeers ... they go everywhere together ... so I'm turning to my fellow ebayers to find this great old Pathfinder a new home. I've included 80 huge, high-resolution pics showing every conceivable angle of this truck, so if you've been looking for one of these, take your time scrolling through them and I'll continue the description after the pics. Not bad, huh?! I've always liked this original Pathfinder body style, it reminds me of the Tonka trucks I loved as a kid. It's certainly not perfect by any means, but it's as clean and well preserved as any 26 year old truck with 200,000 miles has a right to be. I looked long and hard for this Pathfinder, and am more than a little bummed out that it's not a keeper. Looks like the Suburban gets a reprieve. I bought it from a nice couple in Cathedral City, the town next door to Palm Springs. The wife drove it as her primary car for the first 10 years, then it became their third vehicle. They had no children or pets so the interior isn't smelly or overly beat up. The husband told me that it only lost it's spot in the garage when they moved to a smaller house about five years ago, which explains the relative lack of sun damage present. As you can imagine, cars parked outside for years can really take a hit here in the desert. Luckily, this truck's paint is non-metallic AND white. That, and being garaged for the first 20+ years, means the paint has virtually no damage at all. The clear coat is perfectly intact (unlike my 2001 white Suburban). I can't believe the shine a serious wax job was able to pull out. If I were to keep it, I could easily live with the small bump on the left rear, since fixing it would mean bodywork and an unnecessary re-spray. Seriously, the paint is in great shape. I can't say much about the engine, drivetrain, etc. for the simple fact that I have zero mechanical abilities. I asked the husband what it needed and he said it's been a while since it's been tuned up. We checked the fluids and they all looked ok. I can tell you that it starts, runs, shifts through all the gears, and stops. If I were keeping it, the next stop would be my mechanic because I have no clue what it needs. If you're a serious buyer and want it checked out at a local shop here in Palm Springs, I'll be happy to make that happen ... on YOUR dime, of course! The interior's "problem areas" are a dried out dash (covered by a nice looking, unfaded custom dash cover), plus door handles, a center console lid and the side of the driver's seat that I did my best to minimize. I applied my best OCD skills and got busy with the Gorilla tape. (When it comes to "fix-all's", my Dad had WD-40 but I have my black Gorilla tape.) So it wasn't super obvious, I looked high and low (read: here on ebay) for a "best-match-I-could-do" blue duct tape. Not a lot of choices for blue duct tape, as it turns out ... but I got as close as I could. The patch job is what it is, I guess. But I definitely gave it my best shot! The biggest flaw by far ... the huge greasy spot in the far back ... didn't actually bother me much because I knew it would be permanently covered with dog beds. If by by mid-week I like how the bidding is going, I'll find a good floor mat for it. On the same ebay hunt for blue duct tape, I bought a replacement outside right door handle because the one that should be there isn't. I tried to install it this afternoon; it quickly became evident that wasn't going to happen. You'll find it in the glove box. Good luck. Also missing is just the mirror piece of the right side rear view mirror. I also bought a replacement for that on ebay, but they sent me the wrong mirror. It's labeled correctly but is almost an inch too big all around. I'll be seeking a replacement with that particular ebay seller as soon as I wrap this up, and hopefully it will get here before the car ships out. If not, I'll forward it to the winner. I bought this car because it ticked a lot of boxes for me, but the thing that really clinched it was that this 26 year old, very inexpensive truck was wearing a matching set of very expensive Michelins. When I asked the husband about them, he said every tire he's ever bought has been a Michelin because they're the best. I'm a long time Michelin punch drinker, but even I can't say that. If he was this picky about the tires, I was willing to take the leap of faith that he was equally committed to properly maintaining the Pathfinder for all of those 200,000 miles. OK, that's it. If you have any questions, ask away and I'll answer what I can. Good luck and happy bidding! I therefore just added 24 (aka the maximum # allowed) of the 80+ pics that are supposed to show up in the listing to ebay's crappy photo system.
