Vehicle Detail
I purchased this truck in September of 2002. This truck was already built the way that you see it when I bought it. The truck was built in 2000-01. I drove it only in nice weather a few times a year. I have limited knowledge about the build. I was told it has a Volare front suspension with large power disc brakes. I am guessing that it has lowered spindles just by the front ride height. The truck has a 9 inch Ford rear end with leaf springs and drum brakes. This truck has tremendous stopping power! I was told the 429 engine was professionally built. It does have 68 heads and roller rockers. The engine seems to have a very stout compression ratio. Serious power output with nice quiet mechanical sound under the hood. Oil pressure runs 40-50 psi going down the highway at full operating temperatures. It has a C6 transmission that works fine. It does have a 9 inch ford rear end with an open differential which limits low speed traction. The gear choice for the rear end was clearly chosen for highway cruising. It is very tall, guessing around a 2.50 to 2.75 gear ratio. However with this much torque on hand and a light truck it works well together. The radiator has good capacity and the electric cooling fan only comes on while idling in the summer. It has a Painless wiring fuse block and all new wiring throughout the truck. The steering column is a Chrysler unit with tilt, topped with a Grant steering wheel. Exhaust system consist of custom fabricated ceramic coated headers with Thrush (Flowmaster style) mufflers. The exhaust system behind the headers is not show quality but there is no leaks and sounds great! The build was done with an off the frame start. The truck appears to have the original cab, hood, doors and front stainless trim. The bed box almost looks to perfect to be original. Of course the bed has an oak floor with stainless trim. The front and rear fenders are fiberglass with an excellent quality to them. The front and rear bumpers, brackets, and hardware are all stainless. All of the glass appears to be original. The windshield has no cracks or chips, just very minor nicks and light surface scratching from wipers over the years. The interior was done well with a leather bench seat with nice working seatbelts, nicely done headliner, door panels, and a good choice of carpet. I have a minor problem with the driver side door lock mechanism hanging up. Occasionally the door will be locked when not intended to be. The truck overall is a great ride. This truck is fun to drive and gets plenty of attention. My only considerations in the future was to go to an air ride rear suspension, put in the locking differential and maybe install A/C. But due to unforeseen circumstances the truck needs to go to a new owner.
