Outstanding 1967 VW Bug! 1967 was the best year ever made! It had the big engine, 56 horsepower, pre-pollution control equipment that killed performance for the air-cooled powerplant, and the car is quick, for a Bug. It had the "new generation" big windows with lots of light and great visibility. I bought the car from a Retired Colonel in the Air Force, a true War Hero! The car was used to commute to Hanscom Air Force Base in the 1960s and eventually became the car of the Colonel's wife. She used it for a few years and then stored it in their barn in Lincoln, Massachusetts. I bought the car from him in 2004 and brought it to Vermont, where I had a $3500, frame-off paint job done, and the car lay in many, many boxes. Eventually, I moved to South Carolina and had the boxes brought by Moving van, and found a retired mechanic to reassemble it, replacing every worn part in the engine, transmission, exhaust, clutch, brakes and installing a brand new interior. The car basically sat in my garage as I was a busy Cardiologist and had no time to take it to the next level. When we moved to Florida in 2012, I decided to complete it, putting in a new gas tank, sending unit, re-doing the brakes as they were soft and pulled to the right. I put in an entirely new headliner as the previously one looked worn. The car now is a period-perfect driver which looks showroom new. It is "Herbie" reincarnated and I have replaced everything "stock." I put non-ethanol gas in it and have driven it about 25 miles since that time. It is now fun-to-drive, if you love the genre. It does everything a true 1967 VW should do, and believe me, I cannot count the waves and enthusiastic "thumbs-up" signs I get, cruising Route 66 near my house. The pictures do not do it justice and I will try to take a few more, though I am an amateur photographer.
