This is a 1978 VW Beetle convertible. It was purchased new in North Carolina by a gentleman who was in the Marines. He was stationed there at the time and within a year he was transfered to El Toro California. He owned it until 2000 when my neighbor purchased. My neighbor drove it on sunny days for about 4 years and then parked it on the side of his house. It sat there until earlier this year when I bought it from him, making me the third owner. I pulled the car out and cleaned it, put a battery in it and tried to get it running. I figured since it had no fuel pressure I would go through all the basics and make it ready to hit the road. I bled the brakes, replaced the tires, put a new battery in it, new points, new plugs, and a new fuel pump. I also took out thefuel tank and flushed it out and replaced the soft lines. It now runs and drives well and even passed the strict California emissions test. It is currently registered and I have a clean title in my name. The body needs work, as you can see there is some rust. The car was Ziebarted when new and the undercarriage is clean. However, the quarters and fenders need to have the rust repaired. Since this car spent most of its time on the west coast in a beach community, it rusted from the top down. So what you see in the pictures is what you are dealing with. There is one spot in the pan where there is rust. It is very small and is not at the point where its a hole. I took photos of it and you can see it in the picture of the underside. All in all its a car that will need a few patches and a paint job as well as some chrome and interior work to be a real nice driver. Its one of those cars you can drive and enjoy while your fixing it up. The reserve is low so bid away.
