Vehicle Detail
Mopar pickup enthusiasts, for your consideration: Classic stock “sweptline” 1970 Dodge W100 4x4 Power Wagon. 318 V8, (original air cleaner, mechanical distributor, Carter BBD 2 barrel carb, manifolds, etc.) New Process 435 4-speed transmission Warn locking hubs If you are a Dodge (or old pickup) person looking for just the right classic project truck, or simply want a solid pickup with some style, this is the right vehicle for you. I have had people knock on my door asking if it was for sale. Little history: Despite the color, this is not a US Forest Service surplus “crumby.” Truck was purchased new October 24, 1969 from the Eugene, Oregon Dodge dealer. Original owner traded it in and it was purchased again in June 5, 1970 with 6,862 miles on it (I have paperwork). The second owner kept it for almost 30 years and gave it to his son-in-law. I purchased it from the son-in-law around 2000 to use as chore pickup. The pickup has been used, not abused. Odometer currently reads 20,648. I strongly suspect it has turned over. Previous owner did not know mileage when I bought it. I have put no more than 5,000 on it. The frame is straight and the sheet metal is remarkably intact. Rust is mostly all surface, no holes larger than a quarter. Floor boards solid. The pickup has spent its life on the salt-free roads of Oregon. The pickup is basically all stock. e.g., engine, running gear, original Dodge windshield wiper fluid bag, owner's manual, bill of sale, and AM radio. The pickup is about as it came from Chrysler. This is, hands down, the best feature of this truck. You are going to look for awhile to find a pickup this vintage, in this shape, with this many original parts that isn't jacked up or turned into a rat-rod. After market add-ons: Bellevue winch (works fine, missing remote switch)Sears Roebuck air horn. After market side mirrors (2) 12 gallon GEM saddle gas tanks with driver's side selector switch Body Issues: Headliner gonePassenger side door doesn't lock from outside Rust hole below right rear light (this is the largest hole, pic#9) Missing back up light lens Dented roof towards back of cab (someone hauled too much long lumber, pic#10) Dent in passenger side bed (I bumped it with Bobcat bucket, pic #12) Standard small surface rust spots over body where paint scratched, etc.. Stock radio doesn't work Usual thigh wear on driver side seat Paint discoloration on passenger side of bed (pic#11—above fuel door) Missing passenger rear running light Dented grill under hood latch (pic#17) Engine Issues: This pickup regularly ran chores as of the spring of 2011. Gas mileage was noticeably diminishing and it was having trouble idling. It currently runs, but engine stutters and idles rough. I would not take it out for chore run as it currently stands. It will require work to become a satisfactory driver. That said, the engine runs--nothing frozen or busted. I started it 10/11/14 and ran it around block. There are no major mechanical failures I know about (i.e., cracked block, warped crank, etc), but it will need pretty comprehensive tune up: setting points, carb adjustments, timing, intake manifold cleaned, valve adjustments, and new head gasket. Will need new starter at some point. Other Mechanical Issues: Synchros sloppy and found myself double clutching, especially when down shifting. Brakes work fine, but there was a small leak somewhere and I'd have to top off master cylinder every now and then. Awesome Stock Old Truck In closing, it is a solid classic pickup with original engine and running gear. I've included more "foibles" than selling points so you get the fact that it is a 44 year old pickup that was used, not abused. I have been forthright to the best of my knowledge. I consider it, and am presenting it, as a tune-up project truck not daily driver. The truck is offered “as is.” With all this, it is a really nice truck and I really do hate to see it go. I'm selling because I have another older Dodge pickup waiting for restoration and not enough time or money for two projects. My guess is if you are looking at this rig, you are not afraid to turn a wrench and probably like the idea of having a project. With some tuneup TLC and small parts replacements, I am confident it could be humming daily driver. My goal would be old pickup fan who recognizes how great this truck really is.
