***UPDATE OCT 22*** I have answered this question at least 25 times now so I thought I would update the listing. The starting price of the auction is my "bottom line." I will not sell the car for less than this amount. That is why I started at this price with no reserve. I will let the auction bids determine the final price unless I receive a better offer locally before the auction ends. Thanks!*** Up for auction is my 1967 Ford Mustang coupe. I have owned this car for the last 19 years and it has given me many great memories. At this point I really just don’t use it enough and am focusing on an FJ40 restoration so sadly we have to part ways. This Mustang is definitely a driver car and is ready to drive home. Throughout the years, I have replaced so many parts I don’t think I could begin to list them all. I have a lot of the receipts well organized and also will probably remember any given part if you have a specific question. But in summary, the car starts up, works through all of the gears, steers, and brakes properly. I don’t have any lines about dead batteries, flat tires, just needs an XYZ but didn’t want to do it, or a “ran when parked” story. The engine and transmission were completely professionally rebuilt in 2000. Since that time, I have only put 16,000 miles on the car. Ever since the first 1,000 mile break-in, I have ran Mobil 1 synthetic in the engine and even after 3,000 miles, the oil still looks brand new. It shows it doesn’t have any gunk buildup inside the engine and is still like-new. I do have a receipt from the engine rebuilders but not the transmission rebuild because a good friend of the family was lead mechanic at a Ford dealership and he did the trans for me. Thinking about it, we also replaced the torque converter while everything was out. I do believe the engine is the original 289 but after a very valiant effort I can’t verify it. Reason being, I can’t see the stamped code that I understand is behind the starter. I tried from above, underneath, and even blindly taking pictures with my phone but just can’t see the code. But the previous owner said the engine was never pulled from the car up to that point. And the condition did seem to line up with the mileage which I also believe is accurate. I purchased it at 1,200 which I do believe was 101,200. Now it shows about 140,000. Anyone is more than welcome to stop by to try to find the engine code if you know how to get to it! The car is an original C-code which is the 289 V-8 with 2 barrel carb. When it was rebuilt in 2000, I had the 2 barrel cast iron intake manifold and carb replaced with an aluminum Edelbrock intake and 4 barrel Edelbrock carb. I also replaced the exhaust manifolds with full headers. I think I still have the old intake and carb laying around but I’m not positive. If I find them, the winning bidder can have them. The ignition points were replaced with a Pertronix electronic pointless ignition. This fits entirely under the distributor cap so it looks factory but adds extreme reliability to the ignition system. The transmission is most likely also original to the car. It is a C4 which is known to be durable and problem free. As I mentioned, it was rebuilt and shifts/downshifts perfectly. Even the neutral safety switch works properly. Since the engine and trans have been rebuilt, it really doesn’t have any leaks. Some of the bottom areas around the engine show some oil residue but I can park it for weeks at a time with now leaks ending up on the garage floor. I think some of the traces of oil probably come from the power steering which I have replaced a few years ago. Speaking of the power steering, the power steering cylinder, control valve, pressure hoses, and pump were all replaced about 3 years ago. It all works perfectly except after the replacement the steering wheel is slightly misaligned when driving straight. It’s just the adjustment screw on the control valve which is obviously in a slightly different spot than it was before. There is a 3 row radiator, transmission cooler, and electric fan in the car which are all upgrades to the factory cooling. When sitting in traffic in the summer, the original cooling really didn’t keep the car cool enough so these items were switched out to improve that. The floor pans were replaced in 1995 when I bought the car. They are fully welded in and not patched. They and the rest of the underbody was undercoated which you can see in the pics. The underbody is in decent condition and the exhaust is true dual exhaust from the headers all the way back with no cats since its pre 1970’s. It sounds like a true V-8 but isn’t annoyingly loud. The interior is in excellent condition with the exception of the carpet. The carpet could use replacing since its pretty faded in a lot of areas. The seats amazingly do not have any tears/rips and the vinyl is nice and tight. I was told by a few experts that its actually original interior which shows it was cared for. I personally never had it recovered. The dash also seems original and does not have any cracks. The exterior is definitely good looking but is not A+ show quality. It has been repainted a few times in the past, as the original color is lime-gold and is evident in the trunk. The paint looks good and shines up nicely but it’s not perfect. Most of the chrome is in nice shape and shines well. If I remember correctly, I think this car has the “Sports Sprint” package which included the turn signals in the louvered hood which are functional and look nice. The tires only have about 2,000 miles on them and are about 4 years old. They are nice Goodyear Viva tires and are well balanced. When I replaced the tires, I finally replaced the aftermarket wheels that were on the car with the extremely nice, Mustang specific chrome wheels. I think I got them from Mustangs Plus. A few minor issues worth a mention, the windshield washers do not work although the hoses, foot pump, and reservoir are still there. The right rear window regulator does not work but I do have a replacement that I will provide. I just never ended up installing it. The emergency flasher switch on the steering column is broken off so you can’t really use the emergency flashers. The aftermarket radio/CD volume control is a little wacky but it has a remote control that you can use. The 6.5 speakers in front and 6x9 speakers in the rear work well. I might have the original AM radio somewhere too which I will look for. To demonstrate the car does actually start and go as I described, I placed a short video on YouTube at this link: http://youtu.be/qVx_TJCwKfI The car is currently in Woodstown, NJ which is about 30 minutes from Philadelphia bridges, just over an hour from Atlantic City, 2 hours from the NYC tunnels, and 2 ½ hours to Washington DC. You can arrange a time with me before the auction to inspect the car and we can take it for a drive. I’m flexible on how pickup occurs but just for your reference, I am traveling from business during the first 2-3 weeks in November so there are only a few days between the auction end and my trip. My wife will be around if necessary but I’d rather work with the buyer directly just to show everything and see you off properly. The car is also available for sale locally so if the right price is offered during the auction, I might end the auction early. Please let me know if you have any questions. I will try to get back to you as quickly as possible but sometimes am unable to check my email for a day or so. Thank you for your interest!
