Silver Exterior / Black Interior VIN: 9113111114 2 Doors, Rear Wheel Drive, Coupe, 4 Cylinders, Manual Inventory ID: 111114 Vehicle Description Production of the original version of the Porsche 911 began in 1964 and continued through 1973. In 1967, Porsche produced the first 911 Targa which was named after the legendary Targa Florio. The "targa bar" was introduced in response to feared U.S. safety regulations banning the sale of convertibles. The cars stainless steel bar fundamentally altered its shape by making it taller and more "squaresque" in the hindquarters. Originally, the car had a vinyl rear curtain which attached to the targa bar via snaps. In 1968, Porsche added an optional glass window and this version remained in production until 1988. The Targa found a distinct market in the United States and accounted for roughly thirty-five percent (35%) of all 911 sales. In 1983, Porsche produced the first true 911 cabroilet and the Targa instantly became somewhat passe. However, in 2014, and with the celebration of the 911s 50th anniversary, Porsche resurected the Targa and suddenly what was became quite new again. In 1973, Porsche offered three 911 variants: the 911T, the 911E and the 911S. The 911T was traditionally equipped with carburetors. However, in mid 1973, Porsche converted the car to Bosches new fuel injection system named K-Jetronic a/k/a CIS (continious injection system). This variant of the 911 - the 1973.5 911T with CIS - was described by Peter Zimmerman as follows: "... Finally! Porsche builds their first 10! This is the one model that deserves its own chapter. ... All things considered, this is the smoothest, most pleasant of all early 911s to be built to date to drive. The engine, at all RPM levels, is responsive and has sufficient torque to allow use at very low engine speeds. ... The 2.4 liter displacement engine delivers enough horsepower and torque to enjoy in almost any driving situation. ... the folks at the Porsche factory knew they were building really special models." The addition of CIS boosted the cars base horsepower from 130 to 148 and made it competitive with the higher priced 911E. Interestingly, the addition of CIS gave the car an impressive fuel economy of roughly 32 mpg. The example presented here is currently painted in a stunning signal red. As shown by the photos of the trunk interior and the interior door faces, this car was originally silver. The cars prior owner tastefully converted the car to a classic Porsche color (signal red) which shines nicely and has no major flaws. Obviously, the paint is not concours level but it has no rust bubbles, no significant scratches and only minor imperfections. The paint and the chasis of this car are ENTIRELY free of rust (there is NO RUST! on this car). Further, after an inspection of the chassis, I can find no evidence of a prior collision. Thus, it appears to me that the car has never been wrecked and has all original body panels. The car possesses its original cookie cutter rims and has a matching spare. The wheels were repainted silver in the not too distant past and nicely match the patina of the car. While many would prefer Fuchs, this car was not originally equipped with them (and it is probably more valuable to the purist without them). If a set of Fuchs are desired then my dealership can easily source replicas and, for a very steep price increase of $3,000, can supply an original set. The car has new tires on all four corners (195/65R15s in front and 205/65R15s in the rear). The car is equipped with chrome wheel well trim rings which were installed by the factory. After acquiring the car, I ordered the Posche certificate of authenticity (COA). The COA confirms that this car is a "numbers matching" car with the original engine and transmission. The engine number is 6133292 and the transmission number is 335574. The car has a five (5) speed transmisision which was standard on 1973.5 911Ts with CIS. According to the COA, at the time of sale the car was equiped with the following options: Stabilizer bars - F/R Chrome Strip - Fender Comfort Equipment Light Metal Wheels, Pressurized Tinted Glass All Around Dunlop Tires. The interior has been refreshed with new RS door panels (original panels will also be sold with the car), new carpet, new dash cover, new leather steering wheel cover, new Lloyds floor mats with "Targa" script and a new gear shift knob. The front seats are freshly recovered in in "black leatherette" with semi-perforated inserts and the rear seats have been repadded with foam. The Targa top is in exceptional shape and neatly folds for storage in the trunk. The silver Targa bar is also in exceptional shape. The cars rubber remains in good condition and does not need to be replaced. In order to make the car more presentable, I decided to replace the front and rear turn signal lenses with new Euro spec replicas sourced from Sierra Madre. In addition, I replaced the trunk carpeting, added a new a new "retro" radio which has AM/FM/MP3/iPod capability and inserted new Kicker 4" speakers in the rear speaker boxes. These speaker boxes were not originally from Porsche but, in my opinion, they evoke the technology of the great early 70s and add to the cars appeal. Please note, the rear speaker cases are vintage "Lear Jet" while the speakers within them are modern Kickers. In addition, I replaced the front, under dash speaker with a correct 7 X 4 inch speaker sourced from Suncoast Motorsports. Please note, this speaker is the exact dimension of the original and uses the original holes. Thus, the metal structure of the dash has not been altered. In order to maximize the efficiency of the sound system, I covered the entire floor of the car in commercial grade Dynomat (peel and stick). This greatly reduces road noise and provides additional heat deflection. In addition, I placed another layer of sound supressant on the floor boards and then placed the carpet over both layers. All materials used are completely removable and do not alter the authenticity of the car. To further enhance the cars appearance, I removed the rubber bump stops or "bumperettes" from the front of the car and replaced them with a simple 1" rubber strip. I used parts sourced from Pelican Parts to accomlish this alteration and it gives the car the same appearance as a 1973 911S. The original bumperettes will be included with the sale of the car. After the car was cosmetically refreshed, I had a mechanical inspection performed. The car was in quite good shape and did not have any major mechanical defects. However, I did have the engine removed from the car and had new valve cover gaskets, a new transmission shifter seal, a new rear main seal and various other upper end seals installed. I did not replace any seals on the long block. Please note, if the absence of oil leaks is important to you then I would strongly urge you to look for another make and model as air cooled engines are very difficult seal and/or to keep sealed. Further, I cannot guarantee that this engine will not leak oil. I can guarantee that this engine does not leak an excessive amount of oil. I can also guarantee that this engine is is good mechanical shape, i.e., it has good oil pressure, propels the car at a modern rate of speed and does not have any major oil leaks. After an oil and oil filter change was completed, a transmission service was performed. The cars A/C system was also restored through the addition of a new evaporator valve and dryer. The system was then recharged and it currently blows cold air. The system is not original to car but is fully operational and greatly improves the cars driveability. In addition, I had the following mechanical refurbishments made to this car: Installed new rear sway bark links; Installed new e-brake cable; Rebuilt / painted clutch pedal cluster; Replaced transmission shifter bushings; Rebuilt / painted shifter column; Rebuilt / painted e-brake handle; Installed new master cylinder; Installed new brake light switch; Installed new, right, rear brake line; Flushed brake system; Installed new wiper blades; Replaced all injector seals and hoses; Replaced alternator belt; Replaced accelerator pedal; Replaced drivers and passengers floorboards w/ new ABS floorboards; Installed new oil pressure sending unit; Installed new muffler gaskets; and Installed new door seals. These mechanical and cosmetic refurbishments cost my dealership over $10,000 (at wholesale price) and I have receipts to support each and every item identified herein. The receipts will accompany the sale of the car. After performing the refurbishment and driving the car approximately 300 miles, I can verify that the car starts easily, drives impeccably and, to my eye, does not need any major mechanical repairs. Obvioulsy, I urge all prospective buyers to obtain a pre-purchase inspection to confirm my opinions. If you would like for me to take this 911 to a particular shop in Houston then please ask. If you would like to have your mechanic visit my shop then please ask. Finally If you purchase the car at the listed listed and/or "Buy It Now" price then I will provide FREE SHIPPING! In addition, if you purchase the car the the "Buy It Now" price then I will provide a written "buy back" guaranty covering mechanical defects that that you discover with the car.
