Vehicle Detail

My husband, Barry is offering his car for sale with the following description: *** Please see more pictures at: flickr.com/photos/128017906@N02/ Choose PhotoStream & Click Slideshow *** 1991 Cadillac Brougham61,350 original milesOne family owner, my father purchased new100% Clean, event free title in hand Very Clean, pampered, kept in humidity controlled, enclosed, rodent free garage its entire life when it wasn't being driven. It has only seen rainy roads maybe 5 - 10 times, when my father was caught on a trip and it rained before he returned home or a handful of instances when he left home for something and couldn't avoid the rain. (He had another Cadillac that was not as nice as this one that he used for rainy driving). He would hand wash the car the day he returned home, always. It has not been left in the sun very many times, so the top, and interior (in addition to the exterior finish) is almost flawless. It has never seen a salty road! Everything works to the best of my knowledge. Read through the feature listing for what that includes. It would be easier for me to describe to you any alterations or what detracts from it being close to emaculate, so here is a list: 1) The biggest flaw was created when my mom backed out of the garage one instance before she pressed the garage door opener remote button and the garage door had not risen out of the way when she backed up, causing a scratch, a very shallow/faint dent on the trunk lid above the tag at the spot of the scratch, and a few blemishes to the bumper trim on the rear (look closely in pics). The garage door was very flimsy and was damaged more than the car. Hardly worth fixing, so my dad chose not to. But you be the judge. 2) The Right rear wire wheel cover has a slight scrape/dent in one spot, apparently a curb incident, but is only noticable if you look for it. 3) There is a tiny chip or nick on the windshield from an apparent rock impact. It is not noticable from the outside or inside, unless you are looking for it. 3) The tires: The original tires that came on it were the Uniroyal Gold Seal, Puncture resistant featured. My Dad however, a staunch Michelin fan didn't care for them. So at 20k miles, off they came to install the Michelin XH4s, which yielded a superior performance in his opinion. The whitewalls now on the Michelins are probably the biggest detraction of the car because they are not bright any more (probably from all the scrubbing), so the tires should be replaced to restore a new look. I would have replaced them, but decided to let the buyer do that to install the tires of their choice and to have the warranty in the buyer's name, instead of mine. They have approximately 40k miles on them (see pic of warranty receipt), and therefore don't have as much tread left. I would give them another 10k miles or so, but they still perform well and as long as you don't live more than 10k to 20k miles from me, you should have no problem driving it home. At 75 miles per hour on the Interstate, I noticed a very slight shimmy, but not at all bad for these tires at this mileage. The car still drives true and straight as an arrow, no pulling or erratic handling. 4) This is not a detraction, but an alteration to improve reliability. I added a modification to address a generic Cadillac design weakness in the Climate control computer module responsible for the heater & A/C blower operation. A feature was engineered and installed by me to eliminate the consequences of a failure. ALL Cadillacs of this model and vintage are subject to this failure, so rather than just continuing to address it by replacing the module, I installed a relay to prevent the failure from ever causing consequences (the blower would remain running even after ignition key was removed.) So even if a new module fails, you'll never see the consequences. More detailed information of this electrical modification upon request. If removal of this feature is desired, it could easily be restored and returned to 100% OEM stock design (no wires were cut) if one chose to do so. 5) My father removed the fuse for the radio’s power antenna, simply because he did not want to take a chance of it being broken off if he ever had a shop to raise it on a lift during inspection or tire rotation, etc, so the fuse is in an envelope in the glove box if someone wants to restore the power antenna's operation. It works fine. 6) There are a few minor scuffs and blemishes in several spots on the car's finish and trim from its usage. They are few in number. There is no paint fading at all. My camera will strain to pick them out, but I will try to capture everything if you request it. I took over 150 pictures of this car...many closeups, but am limited to only displaying 24 in this auction per ebay rules. Please contact me for questions or if you want additional pictures or desire any angle that is not displayed in this auction. My phone: 828-468-8865 (ask for 'Barry', leave message & I will call you back as soon as possible) I honestly do not know what else to say that’s wrong with this car. Now for the features: I added a nice Class III/IV "Hidden Hitch" a few years ago, and it is still almost new with only 700 total miles on it towing a trailer with a gross weight (trailer and cargo of 800 pounds), on only ONE TRIP! The car didn't know it was back there. Stainless Steel window visors were added at my Dad's request, and were helpful on those rare instances the car was left out in the sun, the windows were cracked to allow the heat to escape without fear of the "R" word entering the car if there were an unexpected pop-up shower while unattended. These are not some cheap plastic ones that you see in use so often today. New exhaust has been added in portions where needed to restore it to like new performance and safety, and to eliminate about the only traces of rust that I could find on the car: the tailpipe and resonator, which was replaced. The main parts are still original and in good condition. The belt and hoses and brake pads are not original, they have been replaced with NAPA or equivalent. Also, the Alternator has been replaced, as these alternators do not like dead batteries, we learned. A higher than OEM capacity battery 850cca/1000ca is installed. A new spare A/C Delco Oil Filter and Penske Air Filter, as well as a used but usable spare belt is included. I live in the vicinity of Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet, a "Mr. Goodwrench" dealer. The most recent inspection shows (contact me for pictures of inspection sheet) that the next service maintenance check is due at 62,700 miles. My father ensured that the oil and filter were changed religiously every 3000 miles, with premium synthetics added. All service records are available. An original Cadillac Dealership Shop/Service Manual is included. We do not trust just any dealership to service our cars! No Ethanol fuel used in this car! We pay more to use NON-Ethanol gasoline. My Dad was a fan of "Sunoco 260", for those old enough to remember what that was. The fuel delivery system has been cleaned and ready for a trip. The larger 350ci (5.7Liter), Throttle body fuel injection is more reliable less temporamental as compared to newer models with direct port injection and it will move you down the road and out of harms way quickly. It is a joy to drive. I am told by reputable mechanics that it is among the best engines GM/Chevy ever produced. If I weren’t going to all trucks in my fleet, I would keep the car. Original GOLD Keys included, and Original non-Gold keys included. No duplicates ever made! My Dad was a AAA member and therefore displayed the stickers as you are supposed to (see pic of rear bumper). I left the stickers on for initial pictures taken, since they reveal the lack of weathering to the car by their good condition. I have removed them, so the bumper is now clean and shows no traces of these stickers. Carpeted floor mat protectors were used to protect the car's original Cadillac floor mats AND carpeting, which is in excellent condition, as is the rest of the interior. No odors, musty smells, pets, smoking, no humidity related issues (mold, mildew, etc.), no rodents, EVER! The A/C still blows cool air (perhaps not quite tech manual specified to be the coldest), on the original virgin R-12 Refrigerant charge that it came with. No conversions to R-134a on this car as R-12 is a superior refrigerant in mine and others' opinion. No one to my knowledge has ever attempted to re-charge the system, which unless done properly, can introduce damaging moisture to your A/C's freon which leads to all sorts of life shortening consequences. This car has a certain amount of sentimental value to me, as it was one of the few Cadillacs that my father ordered from scratch from a dealer and purchased brand new according to his specifications. (He was a Cadillac fan all of his/my life growing up.) The ORIGINAL Cadillac Window Sticker that came with the car is displayed in the window. But my garage space also has some value to me, and keeping the car will not bring my father back, so I guess it must go. I also have a picture of the car right after he bought it when it was approximately a week old. I remember the day he drove it home from the local dealer, after it had arrived. We all got to ride in it. I cannot discern any noticable difference in its performance then versus now. No unusual noises, or driving anomalies of any kind that I am aware of. This car is awesome, as it is one of the last of the classic rear wheel drive Cadillacs, infinitely preferable to the front wheel drives from a reliability/cost to maintain standpoint. You may find a Brougham with a few less miles on it, but it may be difficult for you to find one that is cleaner or preserved and kept in better condition! This car has NOT been professionally cleaned or detailed, because I wanted to retain its true condition for someone to see. No pressure washing has occurred, risking water intrusion in any of the numerous electrical connections on this car. I have not spray painted over "rust" to hide anything. You will see, when you come to look at it. There is a typical greasy residue around the grease fittings under the chassis which my Dad always kept greased regularly, and on the components trailing the engine compartment which is typical of vehicles that are driven at all. But otherwise, no fluid leaks that I can detect. I have tried to represent this car as accurately as I can, but it is NOT a brand new car anymore. So just keep that in mind if you see something that I couldn't imagine that one could see, as everyone's standards are different. As such and in addition, there is no warranty or guarantee expressed or implied if you purchase this car. I will try to accomodate your viewing the car prior to its purchase, and assisting with arrangements that you may make after the purchase. This is a NO RESERVE Auction, which will ensure that the highest bidder takes it home. We are not a car dealer and this car DID NOT come from an unknown person's estate auction. I personally know the history of this car! My father simply was forced to stop driving due to a sudden disabling stroke. I assumed responsibility of this car from that point on while my mom drove it up until she no longer drove it. Do your homework on these classics and come see this awesome car, one of the best looking of the classic rear wheel drive Cadillacs, in my opinion. If you are looking for a well kept Fleetwood Brougham d'elegance, I do not think you will be disappointed in this one. Contact me or call me if there are questions that I may be able to answer, or if you need a picture angle that I was not able to include. My phone: 828-468-8865 (ask for 'Barry' & leave message & I will call you back as soon as possible)Good Luck! *** Please see more pictures at: flickr.com/photos/128017906@N02/ Choose PhotoStream & Click Slideshow ***On Oct-20-14 at 17:43:04 PDT, seller added the following information: *** Attention Update 10/20/14: 13 New Pictures add as of late today showing the results of my having the minor dent in the trunk lid completely removed using a Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) Method, recommended by Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet's Body & Collision Shop. No Body filler, no paint, no paint or clearcoat cracking. Simpy, the Dent is now completely Gone! The camera cannot detect it, nor can direct viewing in any kind of light. It is as if it was never there. *** Attention Update 10/20/14
