Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Mom needs a snowplow so the Ranchero has to go! Bought the Ranchero on Ebay several years ago from a body shop in California that had redone the seat, headliner, carpeting, exterior paint, and relocated the gas filler neck to the bed sidewall, new clutch, radiator, water pump, carb, fuel pump, voltage regulator, and battery. Body is in very good shape. A bit of surface rust on the frame and underneath; see photos for some small holes under the driver’s side floorboard, but I have never driven it in the rain, so has not been an issue. Over last 3 years have put on about1,000 miles largely because it came in lowrider configuration that needed to be reversed. Here’s what I’ve added to the mix despite the low miles: Sourced a matched set of rims and tires, so you get the extra set that came with the vehicle – the old tires don’t hold air, but allows you to swap out the new tires if planning to store for any length of timeReplaced the straight pipe with an exhaust pipe, muffler, and chrome tipReversed the low rider configuration with new springs front and rearAdded original mirrors interior and driver side doorDust plate for the transmission bell housingPeriod license plate lightPeriod jack, plate, and handleCarb rebuild and tune up in AugustSpent a bit of money trying to get the automatic turn signal cancellation to work, but as you may know trying to obtain these specific parts in working order is like landing a million dollar lottery ticket…in short, you have to manually trigger and cancel the turnsignal. Spent a bit of money getting doors to close nearly normal; to make it like new the local body shop wanted to disassemble the quarter panels but the doors work just fine for the amount of driving I have done with it.A gas pedal that has not been installed yet, I'll have to look around for itHave the Ford shop manual As you can see in the photos, the paint is just stunning in the sun. The reupholstered seat and headliner look great and I've had a moving carpet over the seat to protect it. Glass intact. Accent strips around bed and rear window intact but note it is flat metal instead of chrome. Starts and runs great after the traditional 3 to 5 minute warm up and throttling down the choke. Do not have the thread and wingnut to hold a spare behind the seat (will include the jack in the sale, but fair warning, you should ever use such a jack, they are just too dangerous under any conditions.) Depending on what you intend to do with the Ranchero, here’s some things to consider: windshield wipers and electric motor – when the body shop replaced the fuel pump they did not go with a vacuum one to support the windshield wipers so either the pump needs to be replaced or you need to buy a 1963 or later electric windshield wiper motor (if you plan to drive in the rain that is). Source a couple white dashboard knobs. Replace the waterpump slugs with connectors to the heater hoses if you want the heat to drive in cold weather (again the body shop chose to do this and as I have never driven the Ranchero in less than 50 degree weather never had a need.) The fuel gauge pops to ¾ full when the engine is started then drops below E…not sure if this is a wiring problem or if the sender needs replacement. Door window and vent weather strips. Window crank on the passenger side door has lost the retention clip. Bed has a spray on coating that is cracking in many places. I was going to replace with diamond plate and add a tonneau cover but never got around to it. Ranchero is sold as is where is. Title gets turned over when the cash is in hand or the check clears the bank. Will be advertising locally so reserve the right to end the auction early. We've already had first snow flurries, so need it gone to make way for the snowplow. I can hold the vehicle for maybe two to three weeks after the sale but then it needs to go. You can send a car transporter (conveniently located near three interstates) if we can agree on an early morning or late evening pickup; otherwise it needs to be picked up over a weekend. Ask questions, please. I have sold several vehicles on eBay and no issues and want to make sure I keep my rating. All I can tell you about the previous lineage is that the last owner was in Las Vegas and sent it to California to be worked on, then ran out of money. This explains why the body and frame are in very good condition, but where the vehicle spent the other 40 years, cannot say. On Oct-11-14 at 20:39:53 PDT, seller added the following information: *** Late additional information Saturday October 11, 10:30pm. Was asked about rubber moldings for glass. Windshield rubber does not look 50 years old, but does not look just 3 or 4 years old, so looks like replaced at some time. The rubber on the rear window looks fairly new, so I would say the California body shop did replace it. Question about the tailgate. It is straight, no bows or depressions. The hinged hangers look news. The interior of the tailgate is the same color as the exterior, so a nice touch. The handle does not look recent, but it works easily to open and close...(my previous 1960 needed a thin long screwdriver to trigger the latches on both sides). In putting things in order for the sale came across a new glove box insert, metal screws to secure it, two tiny rubber bumpers, and a new white knob replacement for the turn signal stalk from Dennis Carpenter (Ford parts and accessory supplier). (I'd forgotten I had sent away for these and then I remembered I did not put it in because I was trying to decide what to do about sourcing a period radio antenna. It looks like the antenna wire lead is laying in the bottom of the passenger side quarter panel and I have painter's tape over the hole in the fender.) Also found a spare fuse box and the old windshield wipers minus inserts that were sent with the car from California. Have not come across the gas pedal yet but still looking. Finally found some scuff marks on the driver's side door panel; I used Armor All on it but did not remove much. Will see if I can clean this up.
