Vehicle Detail
up for auction is my 1991 Capri. This, made in Australia, soon to be classic, is in good running and reliable condition. I will try to list as much as I know about this vehicle for bidder confidence. I am the third owner of this vehicle. It spent a majority of its days, and originally, as a Florida car. The good news about that, is there is very little rust and corrosion. There is no rot anywhere. Very solid. All four tires are in very good condition, with what appears to be about 90% tread life left. I have just installed a brand new, Silver series battery from Autozone, which should be strong and reliable for at least five years. The car starts instantly, and idles beautifully. Very quiet. No taps, smooth and quiet like a sewing machine. And no smoke or oily odors. Driving the car is a pleasure. It shifts easily and smoothly. The 100 hp engine feels peppy with its light weight and really sips gas. easily achieving 30mpg plus. I spoke to the previous owner extensively and he explained how he wanted to restore this vehicle to show condition, but never had the time or funds. However, he did manage to replace the clutch assembly, throw out bearings, and c.v. joints. Between him and I, I don't think there could be more than 500 miles on the new clutch, because neither of us drove it much at all. The convertible top is in good shape, fully functional and no need for replacing. It is also a pleasure to operate, because after you get the hang of it, it can be deployed in about two minutes. Unfortunately, there are some issues which need to be addressed, or at least noted. 1.) The headlights. They turn on and off. But they do not rise and retract as they should. This seems to be number one common issue, and this car has it. So, I often just put them up manually and drive that way. I understand they can be rebuilt and may just need to be lubricated and cleaned properly. 2.) There is a crack in the windshield, however, The car still passes inspection because it does not interfere into the wiper area. 3.) Front drivers seat is shot... HOWEVER, I do have, not one, but two used but in good shape, factory matched replacement seats. I do not like seat covers. I wanted it to look original. So I have the seats but never installed them. They just need to be cleaned and installed. 4.) Trip meter stopped functioning. Fortunately the odometer continues to work just fine. But the trip meter slips or just stops. 5.) The paint job is not original and not in good shape. It is peeling or bubbling. The original color was silver. 6.) There is a dent in the drivers door. and quarter panel area. I do have another drivers door, but I don't know if it would be just easier to fix the dent, or replace the door..So I left it alone and the door opens and closes just fine, but looks unsightly. In addition to this vehicle, The previous owner had another Capri. It was his mothers, and it was scrapped due to frame rust. It had low mileage (I believe on 58K) and in mechanically good shape. So he stripped a ton of parts off of it, including, but not limited to, Engine and automatic trans, both boxed in wooden crates with wheels, hood, doors, trunk, steering wheel and linkage, seats, an entire convertible top with hardware in nice shape, wheels, and about a dozen crates of electronics, pop up headlights (untested) engine parts, interior, exterior and mechanical parts. All these parts are included in the sale. No obligation to take them, but they are for the taking and can even be sold off to pay for this entire vehicle. The vehicle is titled and registered in NY state. But is located in Milford Pa, zip 18337. all the parts from the donor car are located in Warren township, central NJ zip 18337. I can take the car to this location to make things easier, if needed. And a truck or van, in addition to a trailer may be needed to haul all the parts I have. I believe this car can be a great project for a young guy who wants a cool retro car but has tight funds, or for anyone else that can appreciate what this odd little Ford creation is all about. All for a price that can barely buy you a moped. Feel free to leave any questions and I'll get back to you soon.
