Vehicle Detail
Very rare sandwinder super car Dune Buggy. This is a very rare lost piece of history all in its own. Things like this don't come up to often for sale. I have for auction The sandwinder that was built by the late Don Rountree, and used to sale and show what kind of products he was selling. This one is the promotional buggy. This was not what the public was getting in the late 1960s. Rountrees Sandwinder buggy has the best of everything. Not a penny was spared when building it. this buggy was built in riverside California, and they were proud of it to say the least. The Sandwinder will be one for the collectors for sure. im going to do my best to describe it as accurately as possible. I have taken as many pictures as ebay would let me put up. you are more than welcome to come by and check it out in person. pictures do not do it justice. Feel free to call me and talk with me about it and ask as many questions as you like. It is titled as a 1976 because it was hauled from show to show be for it was turned into street use. It was built in the late 60s.Interior...The interior is tufted white naugahyde leather. it is still in pretty good shape for its age. there is a few imperfections that i have pictured. small tears and such. nothing major. the interior was done buy Bill Epling of riverside, CA. the floor is covered in a grey carpet that is in good shape. There is also a small console around the shifter that comes in handy for cell phones and such. There is a back seat that was taken out for the roll bar to be put in place. the back seat does come with it and is pictured. the roll bar was installed so that you could have a bikini top that can be removed with just a few bolts. please remember that this is not a new car and this interior was done in the late 60s but is in really great shape considering its age. Exterior... The paint is a beautiful dark purple. this goes great with all the chrome and polished aluminum. the color may look darker in some light than others. That's why I tried to take several different pictures to show this. the front wheels are not the same as the rear. they are a little different but not a whole lot. they are wide 5 pattern. you will see that i have pictured some small stress cracks in the paint there not anything major. the headlights and tail lights work great. the signals are not working, i have not looked into this it may be a fuse. this buggy will draw attention were ever you take it. Drive train, POWER Plant Now for the goodies lol. The power plant is a 1964 Porsche super 90 356 with around 120 hp :) Yes it is fast. Just like all air cooled engines it marks its territory (leaks a little oil). the engine does not smoke. i have looked up these engines they are very sought after and add a great touch to the buggy and its style. it also adds tremendous value to the buggy. The transaxle is a 4 speed manual. It shifts great. its not at all sloppy and does not have any problems. the breaks are good and this buggy is ready for a road trip. you will not have any problem cruising at 70 mph on the interstate. its smooth and rides great. most def the most fun buggy i have ever drove and im guessing it will be for you also. For original pics and adds and some of the right ups about the buggy back in the day you can use these links and look in samba.http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/1021704.jpghttp://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/1021703.jpghttp://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/1021701.jpghttp://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/album166/SANDWINDER?full=1 Please understand I have tried very hard to describe the condition of this buggy. with that said it is almost 50 yrs old and NOT brand new. it gets tons of looks and thumbs up. it is not junk and it runs and drives great in my opinion. Again you are more than welcome to come see in person. or call 828 776 2004 I would love to answer any questions for you.
