Vehicle Detail
The vehicle for sale is a 1973 Challenger Rallye Edition that a buyer can drive home. The 318 V-8 is equipped with a 2 barrel carburetor and exhaust headers. The Torque Flight transmission shifts normally. It has the throaty exhaust note and idles smoothly. The car is equipped with MANUAL STEERING and non power assist front disc brakes. The windshield wipers work as does the horn. Interior: Is the original Dark Green with decent carpet and some cracks and visible wear in the vinyl upholstery which is typical for a 40 year old car. However, it is still functional and can be left as is, updated or recovered. It has a working factory tachometer, speedometer and gauges including water temperature, amp gauge and fuel gauge. The factory oil pressure gauge is not working but an accessory column mounted oil pressure gauge is in place and working. The car has a working aftermarket radio. The dash pad has been recovered (looks good) and door panels are all in decent condition but of course show common wear and tear for a vehicle of this age. The car has an original Challenger console with SlapStik T-handle but also had the automatic transmission selector quadrant on the column which leads me to believe that the car had the console and shifter added somewhere in its' life. Exterior: The car was repainted in the past but still wears the original rare Lime Green color. It has had typical body/rust repair/touch up work done to the quarters, driver's floor and front inner fender wells. The floors overall are solid. The driver's floor has been patched in 2 spots. I want to emphasize that the car shows reasonably well, is a driver and can be enjoyed as is or upgraded/restored over time. The paint has some fading on the hood, roof and trunk panel. There is surface bubbling on both lower rear quarters behind the rear wheels. Comment: The car looks good from 10-15 feet away. Up close on a scale of 1-10 (10 being show quality), I would give the paint a 3.5-4.5. I believe that the driver's door has been replaced with a door from another Challenger at some point. The window crank mechanism for the driver's window is not operating. The chrome on both bumpers is very decent for the age of the car and looks good. Speaking of bumpers, '73 was the first year of 5 mile per hour bumpers that protruded from the front and rear bumpers. All 4 have been removed and are in the trunk to either be put in storage or remounted. All glass is in good condition. One of the Rallye Wheel trim rings is battered but in place on the car. The trunk floor has been patched but has one small hole about the size of a common nail head. Jack and spare are in the trunk. Underside: I have included pictures of the underside of the car. It is pretty solid in just about every respect including the frame rails, floors (except driver's as noted), front suspension, etc. The condition of the underside is one of the positive points of this Challenger. I have the original Broadcast Sheet (build sheet) for the car. The fender tag is in place and the VIN numbers on the New York State Title, fender tag, Broadcast Sheet and windshield VIN tag all agree. OVERALL COMMENT: Please keep in mind that this is a decent but not a perfect car and at the NO RESERVE starting price is not priced like a perfect car either. The body work is old and the successful bidder who is going to drive it I believe will ultimately want to redo the existing body work and paint. The factory odometer is working but the true mileage is unknown. If you have questions, please ask BEFORE BIDDING on this NO RESERVE AUCTION. If you would like to schedule an inspection, let me know. Summary: This is car is a driver. I have tried to honestly anticipate and answer as many questions as possible. If you have others, let me know. If you have been looking for a vintage Challenger you are familiar with the prices that restored ones go for. For what this one is, it is a good deal. This is a 41 year old car and is sold as is with no warranty. Thanks for looking!
