Vehicle Detail
This auction is for one 1982 Suzuki GS 1100E motorcycle. Bike is in good condition for being 32 years old. It was in a minor lay down accident with previous owner about ten years ago. He didn't want to fix it, so I bought it. The major damage was to the stator cover, the headlight. and the gauges. I replaced these items with used parts that I had on hand. ( I have been riding, fixing, buying and selling GS 1100 cycles for over 20 years. ) The rest of the damage was cosmetic. The pictures will show this. I have put about 3000 miles on this bike since then. It had 32000 plus miles when I bought it. I still have the old gauges to show the actual mileage. The new gauges had a little over 2500 miles on them and now read 5982 miles. This bike is very dependable. Never left me stranded. Recently though, I have noticed a cold starting issue. With the choke on, the bike starts fine, but one cylinder is not firing completely. (exhaust pipe is cold ) Once it warms up a little and you can feather the choke off, it clears up and runs fine. I have changed the plugs, checked the carbs, checked the exhaust, tried different carbs, tried different exhaust, still have this issue. I believe that the plug wire is at fault. Unfortunately the stock coils have the wire molded into the case, so you have to get new coils. I have more coils, But I don't have the time or desire to take the bike apart again. The bike is rideable other than this cold start issue. The charging system works perfectly, and the battery is in good condition. The only issue electrically speaking is in the monitoring lights in the gauges. These bikes have a system of lights that come on if you have a problem with the Headlight, Taillight, or Brake light or if your side stand is down, and if the battery is low. The problem on this bike is the High beam and Brake and Tail light monitor come on while riding. The brake light and tail light are working fine, but the monitor lights come on or flicker. The headlight monitor comes on when you go to high beam. This system works by reading the resistance in the wires to each of the lights. When connectors get corroded over time, this increases the resistance in the system and the warning light goes on. It's a pain in the butt system and thankfully was used only for a few years. So basically what this means is that after 32 years the connectors need to be cleaned up a bit. Again a pain, but very common on these old bikes. This GS 1100E is a good solid base for a restoration or you could turn it into a drag bike. Or anything in between !! The GS series bikes are old school, but they were and still are BULLET PROOF. The engines are very popular for all sorts of racing, from drag bikes to midget cars. All sorts of aftermarket parts are available for these engines and these motorcycles. Now for some pros and cons for this particular bike. Pros -- Starts, Runs, and Rides decent. Charging system works perfectly. Solid and straight bike. Clean title. 90% original except for the parts I replaced, Stator cover, Headlight, Gauges. With a little TLC would be a great everyday commuter. With a little more work could be an awesome weekend strip machine. Cons -- Needs tires. Needs fork seals. Probably needs ignition coils. Scrapes and scratches. Leaks a little oil from filter cover, just a drop on the floor. Oozes a little oil from the valve cover gasket in front. Just this spring I found a little orange tint inside the gas tank, Very faint rust. Whole bike should be checked over before any serious miles are ridden. I have tried to describe this bike as best that I can, but remember it is 32 years old and it does need some TLC. I like this bike and it is one of the best GS 1100E cycles that I have owned, however things change and people change, and I am changing in my riding style. ( I'm getting old LOL ) So it's time for someone else to take this bike and make it theirs, wether it be a stock resto, or a daily commuter, or a strip machine. This bike can do any of those with just a little work on your part. Now for the serious stuff ! A $200.00 deposit will be required within 48 hours of auction end through PayPal.
