Vehicle Detail
If you've always wanted a righteous hearse with fins and chrome, then this beast is for you! Up for grabs is an all original 1963 Miller Meteor landau traditional hearse ready to cruise! The Story: I found this half a mile from my place about a month ago and from what I could track of it's history, it hasn't gone farther than a 20 mile radius in the last 25 years or so. An old trucker bought it for his car collection and, as it usually goes, his wife hated it and refused to ride in it until he painted the original black a "cheerful" color. He did, she didn't. Hence the bright green on the body. Years later was then sold to a Hell's Angel where it sat in his back yard for ten years. The local gas man bought it from him, his wife hated it and said the hearse had to go or she would, so it wound up in my hands. I started the basic restoration, found a different project car that I wanted more, so I decided to sell this one. I did do the right thing and offer it back to my pal the gas man, but his wife vetoed it coming back so here it is on ebay! I've put a lot of money under the hood of the coach from new brakes, master cylinder, points, plugs, new rotor, new fuel pump, all filters, new hoses, belts, battery, valve cover gaskets, radiator flush, oil change, and all new fluids. It runs strong and smooth and shifts like a dream exactly like a 1963 Cadillac should. I've had three 1963 pro-cars (2 hearses, one limo) and this performs right up there with the rest of them. The transmission shifts like a dream, but it does need a front and rear seal for sure. The carb should have a cleaning, too. The interior: The series 75 CC windshield is easily the best I've ever seen along with the perfect dash. If you're a hearse collector, you know that these are the single most valuable items on a coach and these are the best of the best. One look at the pictures and you know. The seat needs to be reupholstered, but isn't a lost cause at all. I've put an inexpensive bench seat cover on there to make it more presentable for this auction. The original Miller Meteor rubber floormat is in great shape. Door panels are good with the normal aging that you'd expect on a 51 year old car. The headliner is something you'll need to replace for sure, although the condition right now is fine and serviceable depending on what your needs are for how you'll use the coach. Someone installed a camper window in the roof. My goal was to get rid of it, place a plate up there and install a new headliner. you may like the camper window, up to you. The casket area is not complete. The manual casket table is missing and I couldn't track it locally, but all the panels seem to be including the umbrella and jack storage hinged panel as well as the spare tire hinged panel. Where you take that part of the restoration will be up to you. Some folks would place another bench seat back there, others would simply carpet the back. The possibilities are endless. The original Miller Meteor sconce lights are in great shape and still light up! They have etched crosses on them as many did in the era. All the hardware is there and the fabric panels are intact, although a good cleaning would be in order. One of the casket area wheelwell mouldings is gone. The drivers compartment is in good shape, too. There's a hole in the floor pan and one of the previous owners placed a few license plates under the rubber floor mat. I've tracked down a lower dash panels that I'm including in the auction as well as an addition casket roof light and housing, curtain bar, hoodsprings and the extraordinarily hard to find rear tailfin light and housing for the CC Series 75. All electrical works when I had it on the road like lights, turn signals and interior lights. The exterior: The body is amazingly straight except for minor body damage on the rear passenger side fin, which the pictures should show very clearly. All trim is there and intact! The chrome on the landau bars is beautiful as are the bumpers. The front lower bumper ends are rusted through and will need to be replaced for sure. I have three sources for complete sets if you need them. There is rust in the front wheelwells that you can see in the engine compartment, but nothing that would hinder the performance or structural integrity of the coach at all. The coach still has it's original crinkle top finish in black. The paint is presentable if you like the color, but my plan was to paint it back to the original black. Newer whitewall tires have plenty of tread and the fender skirts fit tight. If you choose the eliminate the camper window, any body shop can weld a metal plate on the roof and there are many crinkle finish paints on the market that match the texture for sure. Make no mistake, this is a project car for sure, but I got it running and driving just fine. If you want a surf-mobile, band hearse or grocery getter, then you're ready to cruise! If you want to restore this back to original condition, it's absolutely possible to do so. So, there it is! It's a beautiful hearse for sure and it's all original and just needs a new owner to give it a little more TLC than I was able to in the brief time that I've owned it. You'll really dig this coach this minute you slide onto that seat and fire it up. Don't let this one get away! Bid now or cry later!
