Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a great running and driving 1957 MGA Coupe. This car was built as a car to drive and enjoy. This car has many unique upgrades that improve the driving experience while retaining originality. The objective was to build a car that would resemble a period-correct upgraded car – Below I describe those upgrades. The hood and trunk are bare aluminum and the spare is mounted on the trunk. However, the car comes with another trunk in case you want to remove the spare tire from the trunk and go back to stock look. ENGINE:Block and Head are 60’s MGB built to 'Rally' specs. Headwork, camshaft, exhaust and intake system are all matched to use pump gas with great performance . Electric fan on an automatic thermostat system. Oil cooler, Distributor matched to the other components and Lightweight alternator. Intake is a custom 1 3/4 SU setup. TRANSMISSION & REAR END:Transmission is MGB with relocated starter so the frame was not altered.Final drive is original Coupe spec, which gives that extra touring ratio and works great with the uprated drivetrain. WHEELS AND BRAKES:Wheels are authentic knock-off type and powder coated black with period correct MichelinsPower brakes - This car was a 1500 with drum brakes, and this was kept for that '50's look. They are all rebuilt. Everything is new in the brake department. The power booster is period 1957 MK I Jag which was designed for drum brakes. Vacuum reservoir is also Jag MK 1. BODY ELECTRICS & TRIM:New Fuel tank, steel replacement with Monza fuel cap. New pump, lines, filters etc.Electrics are all new. Car has an alternator. Nice Lucas headlights. Special indicator system, lovely horns, wipers and heater done like new. There are two electrical cutoff switches for security, and a remote door locking system. Interior has period updates all round- buckets from a '56 AH 100/4, far superior to the MG items. Switchgear is custom design, Nardi wheel, Alloy shifter, Rosewood trim, Leather bucket seats, New windshield, Non-reflective dash pad. All new rubbers and weather-strip and New door latches.Body is original and in quite nice condition. Front bumper and valence replaced with the Sebring race valence. Run your fingers around the wheel arches and rear valence - perfect. Like the day it left the factory. All new window rubbers. Spare wheel rack on the trunk lid to give more space in the trunk. Bonnet and trunk lid in alloy. Additional Pictures: http://s233.photobucket.com/user/Marquinho69/library/1957%20MGA%20Coupe Things to note: This is a British car and therefore leaks a bit of oil. Nothing major, just a little at a time.Paint is not perfect and car has some scratches - the car is driven regularly.Speedo does not work - replaced cable, but still doesn't work. I have not been able to find a replacement unit. Important: I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have, so please ask questions before biding. Car is located in Redmond, WA and can be viewed by appointment. No warranty is provided or implied. This is a 57 year old car and things can go wrong unexpectedly, specially being a Brit with Lucas electrics. On Aug-19-14 at 14:38:21 PDT, seller added the following information: I have received several questions regarding the condition of the paint, the hood/trunk condition and the engine. I am describing those in more detail below, but I have also attached new pictures with details on the scratches, blemishes and a quick video of the car running from cold: Paint: Again, this paint is good for a driver and has no major issues. There are scratches and blemishes, particularly on the driver side of the roof (see picture WP_003110). Just to be clear, if you're looking for a show or perfect paint job, please look elsewhere. Hood/Trunk: These two are the original pieces to the car. They have been sanded down and left bare since the skins are aluminum (the frames inside are painted silver). The hood still shows the repair done to the skin. The original trunk lid was drilled so that a bracket can be mounted to hold the spare tire. An additional stock-looking trunk lid is included for the car (if the new owner wants it) so that the spare can be removed from the top of the lid and put back inside the trunk if desired. Engine: Starts and runs very good - no issues to report. Since it has a sporty cam profile, the idle is a bit lumpy, but not bad, car pulls strongly from low RPMs and continues all the way to 6K RPM. See video to see how it idles cold. Once up to temperature, the RPMs go up a bit. I have really enjoyed driving this car and taking it to shows and car meets. Wherever I go, it draws lots of attention, thumbs up, comments and even people telling me that this is the most especial coupe they've seen in a long time.
