Number of good points, few minor issues, overall a nice 240 wagon . Nice looking. Nice driving. Drive train, engine and transmission is particularly nice. Owned and maintained by a family from an affluent area in suburban Maryland just outside Wash DC . -------------------------------------------------------------- Arrived here in nice cosmetic and mechanical condition. Engine clean. Minor tune done within last year. Engine runs flawlessly. Smooth quiet, good power, smoke free, quiet. The engine is Volvo’s ultra high quality and dependable 2.3 liter 4 cylinder…that you already must know about. The engine standout that Volvo burnished their reputation upon. These engines are super strong, super dependable, easy to work on, and just a legendary, trouble free power plant. Performs well, sounds good. No issues at all. Underneath, bottom absolutely tight and dry. No leaks whatsoever. Still has the hard plastic under engine splash bonnet intact. Transmission shifts nicely , on time, smoothly and in a well oiled easy way. Over drive button working on and off properly as it should. Trans perfect . Tires – Tires are a matching set of nice tires in good- excellent condition. Maybe 75 %tread . Good set of Volvo original equipment wheel covers, few scratches. Steering is straight and true. Take your hands off the steering wheel on the interstate and it tracks well. Heat is strong. Fan blower motor is QUIET and smooth on the dash - unlike some other Volvos – a somewhat important point! Exhaust – Exhaust, muffler and tailpipe and solid full length exhaust in good shape. Carpets are good, one or two modest smudges. Seat Upholstery is a solid B+ to A-, in overall very nice, clean shape , exception of a funny not so nice looking “liquid Leather “ type repair on a driver seat crack. With the exception of that issue, the seats are quite nice. Air conditioning – the air blows and comes out , but not cold. Original equipment Radio works and is OK, but eventually you’ll want to replace or upgrade. Has a funny spot in it that sometimes makes tune-in a little funny to get right on station and settle down. All trim, molding and chrome present and in excellent condition. (another rarity in classic 240s). Power windows, locks and mirrors. Windows all good glass 100% On rare occasions, the driver side window randomly and momentarily came off its track for on me – and then “recovered itself “ and was fine. I lubed it, and it seemed better, but still seems like it works normally most all the time and then can be again temperamental. One Door handle pin is loose from its socket. No real problem Lights and lenses are good, lit strong and intact - with exception of – driver side marker light lens (about $15) should be replaced as they periodically require – has some funny glue on the edge. The other one looks new. Taillight lens look excellent and headlights are good. Also, nice point - "Volvo-wise" the normally cracking and splitting 240 Volvo dash board is in good shape . Does have couple small cracks smaller than normal. Spare in trunk. Jacks and handles all present and good shape. lights correct . --------------------------------------------------------------------- My assistant and I drove it maybe 1500 miles in July and August since we took it off the lot for eBay. Speedometer is working fine, but the odometer does not move and thus is categorized technically as mileage discrepancy when the owner traded it. Our understanding , clearly supported by the accompanying Carfax , is the car was driven sparingly. [ again please see the Carfax record above) the miles are something just over the current 89K reading. We drove the car about 6 weeks after we took it off the lot [ no incidents whatsoever, btw] That added about 1500. We estimate it now has about 93-97K miles. [ { Again, if there’s any question - fortunately there is a Carfax report, and you can directly see the mileage history displayed. The computer track indicates it was sparingly driven and the mileage is low. It’s been a low miles use car through its life. It had a Carfax certified mere 68,506 miles in July 2010. That means the owners were using it only about 3,800 miles per year. Call it 4000 miles per year - for rough figuring. Four years later the mileage shows 89,000 miles, or in the course of 4 years , about another additional 20,000 miles – which is in perfect keeping with the drive pattern from before. I can’t verify all that to the mile, but it’s pretty clear and what we were told. With the 6 weeks we drove it, you have the low to mid 90’Ks , educated estimate.}] (Please understand also- A lot of people in this somewhat affluent area have 3, 4 even five or more cars at their disposal. Older cars are often kept around for “ specialty use” – maybe one for hauling stuff only, one for college kids visiting home, etc. this one probably a 4th or 5th “family extra” when thy needed a wagon to get large item, lots of groceries or a Christmas tree.) In any event – from condition of the drive train – clearly a dependable, simple, smooth classic that despite a few interior small issues - should last a several hundred thousand more miles because it what it is. Few cosmetic issues - The body is quite decent exception of the ding on the right corner and the rumple on the left corner. Noticeable certainly , but not a big deal. No rust whatsoever. As you can see in the lower edges, rockers, lower body parts , pinch welds etc are all great. Few scratches on the tailgate and a number of other very small ones that look like swirl marks that show in a bright sun. Underneath excellent . Looks like the ziebart type seal. Paint shines reasonably well, but not perfect. Some scratches as said. Overall impression decent and , the car came in as bright, and fresh. Please refer to photos. Normal wear and taer for age. DID YOU KNOW? --- Safety, weight and strength in a crash – Safety for you – A few years back, Volvo advertised an "Accidental Loss of Life" insurance policy for all '96 models, they had solid empirical data upon which to make their offer. Amazingly, Volvo will tell you that no driver deaths occurred in single-vehicle crashes or rollovers of the Volvo 240 car during the 1990-94 period. Not one . Amazing safely record. Volvo made its reputation for safety and dependability with these cars. You will notice there are still a lot of them around for a reason. They are extremely strong, safe cars. To Purchase it Now- Sell it Now …. In the interest of selling it quickly I’ve reduced it for the eBay sale. [It has been for sale locally, financeable, .......on a lot for $5,295 and it’s still here. It needs to go. ] Now, its no longer financeable and we will just let it go for cash. So, the Sell it Now for the eBay sale has been reset to just $2,888. ……….just to sell it. That’s a lower price than we actually expect it to do on eBay and way lower than the lot price we thought it would fetch - , but in a sense, it’s just an inducement for the fast sale. - Offering an early bird discount when someone takes it mid-auction. You never now with eBay. It might well go significantly over $2,888 if someone doesn’t take it mid week. You never know. If you look around on eBay, check the landscape for similar Volvos in the 90, 92 and 93 range with nice tires, nice body and paint clean people are asking stupidly high amounts for them . anyway - This is a legitimate discount now. I saw one the other day few less miles, but asking $7500. I saw a ‘91 going for $8495. Ouch! By that measure, this is a very good buy. Again, please call me with any question or concern.
