1970 Mercedes Benz 280SL Roadster. Automatic, Blue, Parchment, 2 tops. Clear Massachusetts title. Books, build card and metal tag with original buyers info. Hot compression: 190,180,185,180,180,190,185. 74,175 miles. Oil pressure is max on gauge cold and hot. No smoke or smells. Fires right up and has great power. Runs, drives, stops, shifts, tracks right. I am listing this car for a friend and have gone through it in preparation for the listing. This is a real no reserve auction with a reasonable first bid. Car has the following recent items and work done: New heater controls. (Cables need attention/attachment), Cylinder head done. Recent exhaust system and tires, Just installed new plug wires and clips, plugs, distributor vacuum dashpot, cap, rotor, fuel filter, oil change, valve clearances, re-torque head, fresh antifreeze, shift selector bushing, neutral safety cable. Just completed fuel pump service and mounts, drain fuel tank and clean screens, ultrasonically clean injectors and new injector copper washers. Spare/uninstalled items include: Brown/Tan Sonnendeck soft top. Set of Classic Tube Stainless brake lines, 4 Alloy wheels. Fuel pickup, fuel level sender, rubber donuts and brackets to hang exhaust, Oil filter, fuel filter, windshield seal, car cover. Tires are Goodyear Invicta GS P205/70R14 and are like new. There is no spare tire or tool kit. Does have wheel chock and jack. Dash top has cracks as does steering wheel. Wood trim needs refinishing. The hard top wood trim has been done. Windshield is de-laminating on right side. Original upholstery. Door panel pockets are bagged out. No rubber on door sills. No carpet on floors. This car was painted but never color sanded and buffed so there is room for improvement on the paint but it is well prepped and not wavey. There was a time when the soft top leaked and hence there is floor rust as shown.The gas pedal is not attached and is in the box with loose parts. Otherwise the body is very solid and does not show salt or crash damage and has good gaps and panel transitions. There is some bubbling at the windshield base on the left and right side. Please refer to the pictures. The clock, fuel and temp gauge do not work. I have run the car extensively and driven it hard and observed it to run at correct temperature with a laser thermometer at the head, radiator, water pump etc. As seen in the pictures there are 2 trim pieces missing on the drivers side. Both tail lights are cracked but intact. The front fender features at the head lights and spot welds are present. The areas at the rear trailing arms are excellent. I am willing to deliver in an enclosed trailer within 100 miles of Canterbury Ct. for free. I will work with transporters to make pickup as easy as possible and will give the buyer a reasonable timeframe to arrange shipping. The car will be available locally.
