This car has been in the family since 1984, when it was originally restored. At that time, an engine from a 1973 Opel GT was installed in this car. Over the following 15 years, the car was driven approximately 24K miles, until 1999, when a minor accident damaged the left front fender area. Since then, it has been stored in a carport, under a car cover, and the engine has been started periodically. Some bodywork was performed on the damaged sheet metal, but more is needed. Two of the front grilles and the left front turn signal were removed from the car after the accident and are provided as loose parts. There are a few other small rust areas on the body (including the lower portions of the front fenders, between the wheels and the front edges of the doors - typical on many GTs) and the car generally needs paint. Also, in 1984, a fiberglass rear spoiler was installed. Some of the bodywork where the spoiler blends with the car body will need to be redone (or the spoiler can be removed). The car has a clean title. This car had 96K miles in 1984, at which time the speedometer was replaced with one from a car with 34K miles. So, the car has 62K miles more than what is indicated on the current odometer. The interior is in good condition. The seats are original GT seats (not re-upholstered), with no tears in the vinyl and in very nice condition. The dashboard has one longer crack along the left side (visible in the picture) and a few very short cracks from the vents to the base of the windshield. The rest of the dash is in excellent condition. The headliner is in good condition as well. The vinyl under the rear window has aged due to sun exposure (see picture). The rear tires are brand new (Sumitomo HTR T4 P185/70R13), but need balancing. The front tires need replacement. I was not able to roll the headlights. Also, the Opel emblem on the front of the car (pictured) is loose and has been removed and placed inside the car. The original Solex carburetor has been replaced by a Weber. I was able to start the engine, however, there were two small fuel leaks. One was from the short section of rubber fuel line going to the fuel filter. The other was from the side of the carburetor, apparently from one of the seals. I have included a Weber rebuild kit with this auction (see one of the last pictures). It appears to be for this carburetor, but I am not sure. It does contain a full set of gaskets and other items. As the car has not been driven or run much in 15 years, the engine is not running as smoothly as it could and the entire fuel system should be cleaned. There is also no battery in the car currently. The car is not drivable in its current condition and will need to be towed or transported on a trailer. Also, while I did not test the brakes, they likely require servicing. However, all four wheels turn freely and the car can be moved easily. The vehicle must be picked up within 14 days of the conclusion of the auction.
