Here is a sharp looking 81 Corvette that needs a little help. I guess you could call it a wounded survivor, but also has a lot going for it. This car runs and stops, but engine has a knock which sounds like is coming from the upper end. I am 95% certain it is not a rod or main bearing. I believe it is either a cracked piston or something foreign has entered one of the cylinders. I do know before I purchased the car that the carburetor was removed and rebuilt, and the previous owner said shortly after getting the car back from the re builder, he was driving it when it started missing, then immediately the knock developed, so maybe while the carb was off the engine, something dropped down the intake. The engine no.'s do match the vin#, so it is the original engine. This is the car for someone wanting a Corvette that can be purchased cheap due to the fact it needs help. In addition to the engine work needed. it has other issues such as the power door locks and horn does not work. The radio lights up, but no sound. Don't know about the cruise control, can't drive it to test it due to risking more damage to engine. Power antenna does not work. No belt on AC compressor. I also believe the left lower control arm needs bushings. It also needs new weather stripping. The body and paint has a couple small issues which I tried to show in the photos. The paint looks to have been done fairly recently and I would rate it a 10 footer. It has nice gloss, but under bright sunlight, the metallic base coat looks inconsistent in some areas. The paint does have chips and nicks that look to have been. touched up. The frame appears to be good with no rot or unusual rust issues for a car this old. These year Corvettes have metal floors and they look good in this one The headlights go up and down, with the right one being a little slow. The gauges and tach work. The power windows work. all lights and turn signals work. The remote mirrors work. Even though the car has new brake calipers, the brake pedal is a little spongy. Possibly some air in the lines. This car is naturally being sold as is and as described. I make no guarantees expressed or implied. Don't let the engine issue scare you off, small block Chevy 350's are a dime a dozen, and this gives you the opportunity to install something with a little more guts than the feeble 180 HP engine in it and have a spirited running car with the rebuilt transmission already in it.
