Vehicle Detail
I am selling this vehicle for my father in law. He is the original and only owner of this vehicle. It was purchased new in 1984 and was used a couple of times a year for short one week or weekend trips. It was usually taken to Bar Harbor, Maine. It was taken on one cross country trip in its early years and that is how it accumulated the bulk of the few low miles. Approximately 10 years ago he lost interest in camping and the vehicle has remained parked in his garage since then. He takes it out every year to have it inspected ( Maine has a very thorough yearly inspection requirement), and after a short ride around town parks it back in the garage. It is parked on plywood, the windshield wipers are lifted off the windshield, and the battery is disconnected. He starts it a few times throughout the year and that is it. This vehicle was completely cleaned inside and out after each outing, and has lived its life in a garage when not in use. The paint still holds a high gloss. This is a "Wolfsburg Limited Edition" it has a special two tone paint job. He has received offers to purchase it nearly each time he used to camp in it. It is in near mint condition in and out. As of last year it did not even have a tiny door ding, but while moving it into the garage after getting it inspected he bumped a piece of 2x4 and made the small dent in the front of the vehicle. He is now selling his home and the camper is just another thing that needs to go. The bedding, appliances, closet, and storage areas look like they have never been used. He still has every manual that came with the vehicle. This includes the stove, refrigerator, propane hookups, camper top and van manuals. The seats, and carpet show only the slightest bit of use. The dashboard and inside door panels are mint. It has an original factory VW cassette, radio. The windshield was replaced to a factory VW tinted windshield. The camper comes with a rare third seat that has never been used, (It is removable). There is a table that stores behind the drivers seat. The pop up camper top works well and was only used a few times as there were usually only two people using the camper. The camper is made to sleep four people. There is a bug screen and privacy screen stored in the back locker, these are fitted to attach to the back hatch door so that it can be left open for additional space and ventilation. The vehicle is mechanically sound. There are no fluids leaking onto the garage floor. It has had the brakes and belts checked and they are fine. The starter was replaced at one time and that was the only mechanical problem ever encountered over the years. It was replaced by a VW dealer. The tires pass inspection, but due to age we would recommend possibly replacing them if going on a seriously long trip. It has a full size spare under the vehicle, and the original jack is located under a rear seat. Specs: Water cooled engine, 10.5 gallon fresh water tank with electric pump, roof locker, two burner stove, refrigerator (can run on electric or propane), closet, swiveling driver and passenger seats, multiple storage areas with latching doors or lids. FLAWS: For some reason the last few years the side door is getting hard to open from the outside. We suspect a handle issue but have never bothered with it since we don't use the vehicle. Once open it slide and glides smoothly. The only other issue is the small dent between the blinker and headlight on the front passenger side. I can not imagine another camper of this vintage in this condition without some serious restoration. This baby is all factory original. It is a real eye catcher. This would be a great camper for a small family looking to travel on the cheap or for a hunter or fisherman who would like the luxury of a camper with the ability to get back into the woods like a truck. Bid with confidence. Someone is about to get real lucky. All questions will be answered to the best of our ability. If any additional photos are requested, we will accommodate. Remember this is located in the beatiful countryside of Northern Maine, It would make a great fly out, drive back trip after all Maine is Vacation land. On Jun-16-14 at 06:39:30 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional info on door: I got a better chance to look at the sliding door. The good news is the handle and locking latch work fine. The issue is with the rear latch (at the back side of the door). Once the handle is turned from the outside or inside a tug or push on the rear of the door pops it open. Looks like an easy fix. When the door is shut it is locked in tight. On Jun-17-14 at 19:21:47 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE TO THE MANY QUESTIONS: It has both tables and mounting arms.We have the third seat it is just not in the van. It is a 1.9 liter engine. It has never been smoked in. The vehicle starts fine, runs fine, shifts fine and has passed Maine's inspection which is pretty thorough. We can guarantee that statement. We cannot guarantee any certain driving distance without any problems. To do so on any used vehicle would be foolish and disingenuous. I can state that the same care and attention was given to the mechanical parts of this vehicle as was given to the cosmetics. I still welcome any questions, these have been asked numerous times so I felt the need to add this. Thanks for the interest and the many nice compliments.
