Vehicle Detail

1952 MG TD UNRESTORED PROJECT WITH NOS PARTS This is a no reserve, full disclosure auction for an original MG TD. I believe in E-Bay as an auction site as it was intended, not as a way to advertise and fish for a retail priced sale. This car does run and drive on handbrake only. Brake hydraulics need rebuilding. Car # TD19735. EXL/NA. Engine is XPAGTD2 20035. Body type 22381. Body #19086/93370. Clear Massachusetts title. The hot compression is 165, 170, 165, 170 PSI. The hot idle oil pressure is 38 PSI. Engine internals are super clean.Original numbers matching body, engine, transmission, Etc. Car was a project started in 1978. Because the car was properly prepared and stored, the engine fires right up. No smoke, has good, smooth power. Transmission is excellent, down shifts to second without grind. Clutch works great, no chatter. Pedal cluster needs new shaft, bushings, clevises and pins. Differential is quiet. Steering is tight. Suspension also. Drive shaft and hubs are tight. Wheels have dings but are straight and solid.Radiator is excellent. Car will sit at idle for long periods with no overheating. Water pump has a weep and there is usual drip from rear main after driving. Tach and speedo not connected. Odometer reads all zeros. Tach and speedo look excellent. The oil/water gauge works. Shows wrong meter in picture but I will supply correct unit. Radiator surround is in great shape. Not pitted or banged up. When I describe parts as excellent I am referring to solidity and completeness not cosmetic finish! Please refer to the photographs. If you need more pictures please ask. In 1978 every needed part was purchased as NOS from Abington Spares LTD. The owner of this car is a friend of mine. Retired career engineer, hot rod builder and designer and was thorough with storing and documenting. After 36+ years he decided that he will not restore this. At today's prices the new parts would be about $10,000.00. The engine had the cylinder head rebuilt in 1978. There may have been more engine work. The inside of the engine is very clean. It was driven and evaluated then moth balled in dry, indoor storage until 2 month ago. The radiator, engine, transmission, differential and fuel tank were drained in 1978. All the parts were stored in a heated basement. Some of the highlights of the parts are NOS marbled plastic and stainless steel steering wheel, bumpers, overiders, door handles, inside latches, latch covers, handles, carpets and other small electrical and chrome parts. The quality and dimensions of the bumpers, handles and latches are noticeably different from the Taiwanese and Chinese items you get today. There is a new, complete tan leather interior. New tan canvas top, tonneau, side curtain covers, glove box and running board strips. The canvas material is the original type. The carpet set is the 11 piece, correct black burlap backed short nap style. It has been in its package since 1978. I will supply some glycerin to soften the fold areas. The woven fabric covered wiring harness has a few modern connectors at some wire ends. There is a full rubber set for the body with everything to rebuild rear springs. Some of the new and NOS parts are mounted on the car and the rest of parts will be well packed and in the car. Comes with new (2014), polished stainless exhaust, tach and speedo cable and battery. Has new brushes in the starter. I went through the distributor and adjusted the rockers. Engine was cranked on the starter for oil pressure and to check oil distribution. After getting to temperature the head was re-torqued. New Zerex Classic antifreeze. New engine, transmission and differential oil. Right now car has a toggle switch for the ignition and fuel pump (fused). Choke and starter knobs function. Fuel pump works. Needs rebuild. Fuel tank is in excellent shape. After driving around I drained it and got some very, very fine rust in suspension in the fuel but no flakes or bits whatsoever. Car sits on vintage tires that hold air. 4 NOS Sears tires are included. Like new with no dry rot or cracking and have never been mounted. Comes with 5 original used hub caps not shown. Wood and frame are fantastic. Frame still has most of the paint on it and was never rusted or repaired. The doors are fantastic and close great with good lines and tight hinges. The hood falls properly with correct gaps. Body tub never removed from chassis. Body tub mostly stripped of paint and shows no repairs or bondo. Pictures show factory lead. Fenders are excellent except for some dents in the left rear and some damage to the lower fronts of the front fenders. Edges and wire-ins are great. Running boards are excellent. There are two small areas of rust behind the doors that are shown in the pictures. Wood in that area looks unaffected. Joints and ends of all timbers are excellent. Side curtain box is fantastic. Some corrosion at the flange above battery but otherwise bulkhead is fantastic. Wiper motor has water damage internally. Please look closely at the pictures as I have tried to show how solid the car is and the problem areas. This is an outstanding restoration candidate. Car is complete except for a very short list:No keys. Has jack but no handle. No tool set. No tongue at tach gear box. Missing 3 dash bolts. No new brake hoses but have kits for wheel cylinders and master. Have lug/hub cap wrench and hand starting crank. Missing 2 fuel tank strap bolts/nuts and 1 windshield post screw. One crank handle clip broken. Comes with loose Whitworth nuts and bolts. Waiting on a spare wheel and directional relay and tach piece. Should have them before auction end. Will update regarding these items before auction end. Have ownership paperwork back to 1968. Comes with signed/open title. Mileage is listed as "unknown" on the 1968 paperwork. Comes with all paperwork, vintage parts catalog and photocopied shop manual. I will do some transport and or help with international shipping… ONLY IF ARRANGEMENTS ARE MADE BEFORE AUCTION END.
