Nicknamed der Panzerwagen “Armored Car” weighing in at more than 3,400 pounds was a completely new body shape for model year 1972. A completely new SOHC 4.5 litre V8 engine was housed underneath the long sculpted hood and mated to a 3-Speed automatic transmission. 1981 saw the launch of the 380SL model, which introduced the new aluminum 3.8 litre V8 engine. It was much lighter and more efficient but still retained its predecessors excellent performance characteristics. With more luxury refinements and driver comforts, the 380SL became the must have luxury performance roadster. However which way the driver chose to drive the car, hardtop, soft top or top down, the SL was the epitome of classic luxury sports motoring.
European Motor Studio is proud to offer this gorgeous 1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL finished in a beautiful Champagne Metallic over Palomino leather interior. The car left the Mercedes-Benz factory in September of 1982 and was invoiced to Mercedes-Benz North America. The car was then sent to Mercedes Benz in Chicago Illinois and sold new to its first owner on 10/19/1982. The car then moved to Tempe Arizona in 1984 and has been in the care of its second owner ever since. The car is finished in a beautiful Champagne Metallic and looks stunning. The paint still has a beautiful shine and luster free from any fade spots or cracking (a few tiny scratches on the rear deck where the hardtop meets the body). All of the chrome is in excellent condition showing very few markings and all of the rubber moldings and bumpers are in excellent condition. The interior shows beautifully with almost no wear of any kind on the two front seats and very little wear on the original carpets. The dashboard is all original and only has a couple tiny hairline cracks around the upper defrost vents. All of the wood shows very well and only a few small hairline cracks around the lower window switches. All of the gauges and switch gear show very well and show very minimal wear. The hardtop has always been stored inside the garage and is also in excellent condition as is the headliner. The soft top has been replaced about a year ago and is a correct factory brown soft top for a 107 bodied SL. This SL is mechanically in excellent condition, it starts right up and idles very well. The car does not smoke or hesitate and accelerates beautifully. This SL has just received a full tune up including an oil change and filter, spark plugs and wires as well as a new exhaust and new brakes and hoses. The car has also received the double row timing chain which is documented with receipts by a certified Mercedes-Benz shop. This SL shifts through all of its gears very smoothly and does not show any signs of grinding or clunking, the steering and suspension very extremely solid and smooth and do not show any signs of thumping or vibrations. The brakes are solid and do not pulsate or grind and have a very solid response. The Pirelli tires have about 90% tread life left on them and the original Mercedes-Benz 15” Bundt style wheels are in outstanding un-marked condition. All of the electronics on the car are in working order including all of the lights, interior overhead lights, dash lights, headlights, taillights, turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights and side marker lights. The original Becker Grand Prix radio is intact and working as designed along with the power antenna. The AC and heater are working as designed and has just received a re charge and new rings and a belt in the compressor. The soft top and hardtop go on and off with ease and have all the original tools go with. The car comes with its original owners manual, quick guide, jack and spare, two Mercedes-Benz cut Huff keys, and service records and history dating back to 1984. This Mercedes comes with a clean and clear carfax and a clean and clear Box A actual miles title. The body has absolutely no rust or damage anywhere on the car and is an outstanding 107 SL.
