Vehicle Detail
Super low reserve for this beautiful, eye-catching car. Be prepared for everyone to stop and talk to you about it. We purchased this car to restore but have two kids now and we are moving. We have no time for it and it needs a home where it will be pampered and restored. The original engine was fully rebuilt. The car has just 31,745 miles (or basically none since it's been rebuilt). The point of restoration that we are at is completing the wiring. The wiring inside is taken apart. Fun car features:Dual Stromberg carburetorsIndependent rear-wheel suspension (enjoy those corners!)Two gas tanksMagnesium alloy wheels**Please note, the rear wheel brakes have seized up since we rolled the car out of my garage.** We have tons of extra parts for this car. I'll take more pictures of the outside and interior and add them shortly along with some parts pictures. We do not have the title for this car because the title was lost when it was last purchased. We can provide a notarized bill of sale. The title is still in the state of California, where the car was last registered. You can buy it to complete another Lotus or to restore. On Apr-18-14 at 07:06:53 PDT, seller added the following information: This description is from the last owner of the car - (we bought this car to learn how to work on cars, but don't have the time). I believe everything is still correct, but feel free to come check it out for yourself. "CHASSIS: The chassis is rust free, straight, and clean. No dents nor rust nor impact or accident damage on the chassis or the body ever.BODY: The body of the car is another rare find for an old Elite. It is completely straight. No impact damage whatsoever. The body is in phenomenal condition. Some of the outer body trim strip is missing on the front fenders. The glass is all in perfect condition.PAINT: The paint is faded from the years. It can be buffed out to look presentable. To make it look really nice, it should be repainted, but since the body is in such great shape, the prep work won't be bad and the cost won't be that much. You could just leave the paint alone and it still looks good from a distance. The front foam bumper is rough looking, but you can get nice covers from Sports Car World. The doors and hood open and close with no worn hinges or misalignment. The driver's door can be a tiny bit difficult to open because the handle is cracked. The brightwork is in excellent shape, and it is all there. All the lights, trim, emblems, etc. are all there. It is complete, with no parts missing.SUSPENSION/BRAKES: The suspension is in great shape. The shocks and springs all all original and are great due to the low mileage of the car. The tires are Dunlop D60 205/60/14H with about 75% of their tread left. The wheel are not original, and I wish I could find the original wheels because the wheel on the car could be removed and sold separately for some big bucks! These rims are Italian made Cromodora brand magnesium rims I have seen on Alfa Romeos, Dino/Ferrari, and Lancia and I have seen these rims sell for $600 a set and more! They actually look beautiful on the Lotus. **AS NOTED ABOVE, THE REAR BRAKES HAVE SEIZED**ENGINE: Here is the exciting part. This 2 liter original engine has been rebuilt. There are zero miles on the engine. due to overheating, and subsequent head gasket failure, it was decided to rebuild the engine just to be safe. So you are getting a Lotus with a newly rebuilt engine. If fact, the engine installation still has a few little thigns to be complete, like putting the air box on, connecting the choke cable, and few other little odds and ends. The new motor start right up and runs and sounds great. **MY DAD CAME OVER HERE AND IN ONE AFTERNOON GOT THE ENGINE TO TURN OVER USING SOME STARTING FLUID**DRIVETRAIN: The clutch and 5 speed manual transmission are in great shape. All gears engage smoothly and are just as you'd expect for a car with less than 32,000 miles.INTERIOR: The interior is in rough shape. Although this car is a real low mileage car, the sad fact for most of the 70's vintage Lotus's is that most of them sat outside neglected for years on end. That is the case with this car. The headliner has been removed due to stains and sagging. The velour and vinyl interior is aged as well. the carpets on the floor have also been removed. The carpet in the rear trunk has been sun faded and moisture damaged and should be replaced. There is an extra center wood grain panel (the one is the car is just fine) and in perfect condition as well as some other spare parts available. The dash is actually in excellent condition. The simulated wood grain on the dash and doors still looks good. The interior is complete except for the stereo. ELECTRICAL: This is where some work still needed to make the car really ready to go. The ignition switch failed, so all the wires have been disconnected. It needs a new switch installed and wired back up." This cars is sold without an warranty express or implied. Come and look at it and verify the description for yourself. Feel free to call us with any questions - 405-924-0711. If you don't look at before you buy it - please just know that the car is "as is."
