Without doubt this car shows up as the nicest, most mechanically correct and babied 940 sedan I can remember in a decade. And, yeah, OK, it’s not mint per se- it has a few very minor lack points - but overall it’s exceptional. *A one owner car – essentially. (Bought with 20K miles by most recent owner) Volvo owned by a professional married couple in an very affluent part of Baltimore. They owned it for over 20 years and were just so gentle to it. Couple very small cosmetic issues; snow shoveling scratches on hood and small seat wear marks repaired with liguid leather, but overall just a delightful 940. REALLY nice driver. And! As nice as it looks, it drives even better. The car was garaged and it shows. Actually behaves and drives better than some year 2002 Volvos I’ve driven. Not perfect ... I can’t say that. But you would have to look very hard to find a 940 sedan that looks better, drives nicer or is in better condition. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Honestly – “Great Used Cars”: What you look for in acquiring a good used car is the mentality and the energy of the owner. Over the years, its the owners mind and personality that make the car what it is. When the owner is careful , disciplined attentive to detail and ultra responsible…and owns a car for many years …you get a used car that absolutely reflects that personality. That is the case in this 940. Engine- Came in clean, clean, clean. No smoke leaks, noise… nothing. Runs perfectly. No leaks whatsoever. The underside (as seen in the pictures) is utterly dry and clean .Not even a sign of a leak. The engine is Volvo’s ultra high quality and dependable 2.3 liter 4 cylinder… the engine standout that Volvo burnished their reputation on. You know the one - super strong, super dependable, easy to work on, the legendary, trouble free power plant – their best . As to the engine is, the first thing you will notice – is it starts so crisply. Actually quite remarkable . To be honest – the classic Volvos, long lasting and durable as they absolutely bare, sometimes turn over belabored several times before they catch and start . Its actually noticeable how this one starts. The start is quick, tight and energetic . I notice it clearly. Everything about it is well exact. Not even a smidgeon of “blow by”. Transmission shifts up through the gears just perfectly. Absolutely perfect as it should. ` Air Conditioning comes, on blows cold easily ! Cold AC in Volvo is another rare Hallmark sigh of superior quality car, because honestly – Cold Ac is not their strength. This one’s got it! You’ll find as I did it’s a jot y to drive. I've driven it maybe 200 miles already. Just a real nice never-die Volvo. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steering. Goes down the road very straight. Steers well even at 75 mph. Tires – Tires are a matching set of expensive Japanese Yokohamas in very good condition. Good solid tread ; a solid B+ to A-. Radio- Radio is strong. Original equipment Volvo radio sound . You’ll notice the radio speakers sound is clear and strong – exceptional for an plder car. Like the rest of the car fresh and babied. Heat is strong and very comfortable even in real cold. Fan blower motor is 100% quiet on the dash. Not even a hint of a squeal. Interior- Overall – REAL nice. Sumptuous rich butter leather in a camel color . Dashboard near the windshield appears as absolutely new. Not even a hint of a crack or shrink spot. Perfect map pockets on both doors! You who know Volvos and map pockets …You know the owner had to extra carful to drive this far and have two intact utterly perfectdoor map pockets ! Garaged – We were told this car was consistently garaged . The condition especially of the paint shine and especially the rubber window moldings outside show it. No sun damage at all. Carpets almost perfect. Headliner tight, clean, leak free. One of the very few complaints - the sunroof motor came on and whired when activated , but didn’t open. Probably just stuck since (just an educated guess)the mid-aged professional-type female owner proably seldom used it. Brakes – Generally feel fine, but there was a set of pads , brand new in the box, in the trunk when the car came in. As I’ve driven it more this week, I notice some small pulsation and I guess the fomer owner was preparing ahead and knew they’d need put on Rear seat- near flawless. Integrated booster cushion for kids in rear seat. Exhaust – Newish looking exhaust tailpipe and solid full length exhaust in decent shape. __________________________________________ Headliner is good . Power windows, locks and mirrors. Power locks all work strongly . all good. The locks are actually “quick” compared to most slow reacting European lux car locks. Little chip on the windshield well out of the drivers field of view. As well as immaculate cabin, even the trunk is primo. Original equipment jacket etc. Spare tire in immaculate storage spot. Tire looks new like it never even touched the ground. All lights and lenses are also perfect. No cloudiness, no hair line cracks. Clear clean. Other little lux features: little red warning lights on open edge door jams that glow red to protect from approaching cars while door is open. The body is near flawless as is the paint. Few very sparse scratches, almost none. One tiny dime -size tiny ding, otherwise near perfect. No rust whatsoever on the body . Underneath also , as you can see in the pictures, n o rust at all. Any other complaints, all vey minor: You have to sometimes depress the gear shift button with your right thumb, a second time because it sometimes sticks a tiny bit. No problem at all. Couple unfortunate scratches and paint issue spots on the flat surfaces (as seen in the close ups ) from a snow shovel years ago. Some paint on both hood and truck was scracthed from that shovel . no big deal. Total overall impression is still of a very nice luxury callsic Volvo. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Safety for you – Safety, weight and strength in a crash – Hey what can one say. It’s a sturdy, heavy solidly built Volvo. A few years back, when Volvo advertised an "Accidental Loss of Life" insurance policy for all '96 models, they had solid empirical data upon which to make their offer . Amazingly , Volvo will tell you that no driver deaths occurred in single-vehicle crashes or rollovers of the Volvo 240 (the base of the 940) car during the 1990-94 period. Not one . Amazing safely record. Volvo made its reputation for safety and dependability with these cars. You will notice there are still a lot of them around for a reason. They are extremely well engineered , strong, safe cars. If you want to Purchase It Now …. In the interest of selling it quickly I’ve reduced it for the eBay sale. [It has been for sale locally on one of our consignment lots, financeable, .......for $4,295 and it’s still here. It just needs to go. ] Now, we will just sell it for cash.
