Introduced in the Spring of 1971, the all new Mercedes-Benz SL or codename R107 was introduced as a personal luxury sports car. Nicknamed der Panzerwagen “Armored Car” weighing in at more than 3,400 pounds was a completely new body shape for model year 1972. A completely new SOHC 4.5 litre V8 engine was housed underneath the long sculpted hood and mated to a 3-Speed automatic transmission. 1981 saw the launch of the 380SL model, which introduced the new aluminum 3.8 litre V8 engine. It was much lighter and more efficient but still retained its predecessors excellent performance characteristics. With more luxury refinements and driver comforts, the 380SL became the must have luxury performance roadster. However which way the driver chose to drive the car, hardtop, soft top or top down, the SL was the epitome of classic luxury sports motoring.
European Motor Studio is proud to offer this gorgeous Astral Silver Metallic over Dove Grey with a black soft top 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL Coupe’/Roadster. This SL left the Mercedes-Benz production line in January of 1985 making this one of the very last 380SL’s to come off the line before production stopped. This car was then invoiced to Mercedes-Benz North America and sent to V.I.P. Motor Cars Ltd on Palm Canyon Dr in Palm Springs California and was sold to its first owner on February 18, 1985. This car is a two owner car and has remained in Palm Springs its entire life. This beautiful SL has traveled only 63,345 documented miles from new and has never been involved in an accident. The paint is absolutely stunning and still has a deep luster to it. The paint and body are completely dent and ding free. There is absolutely no rust or corrosion of any kind on this car. All of the exterior chrome and rubber look outstanding and completely free from any damage. The interior of the car looks almost new, the seats show no signs of wear on them, the carpets look excellent and free from any stains and all of the trim and plastics are excellent. The dashboard is still in excellent condition and shows one small hairline crack towards the front next to the vent against the windshield. The wood is in outstanding condition and free from any cracks or damage. The convertible top has just been replaced with a correct factory soft top. Mechanically this car is outstanding, the car starts right up and idles so smoothly. It accelerates perfectly and the transmission shifts very smoothly. There is no clunking or unusual noises coming from the transmission and it shifts effortlessly through all of the gears. The suspension feels very tight, precise and smooth. The steering is very tight and completely free from any drifting or vibrations. The brakes are free from any fade and have excellent feedback. All of the electrical on the car are in proper working order. All of the dash lights, taillights, side marker lights, headlights, turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights are all working (power antenna does not work). The power windows and door locks are functioning and designed and the AC and heater are in working order. The car has recently had all of the engine seals and gaskets replaced, the timing chains and guides, idler arms, tie rods, shocks, bushings, ball joints, engine mounts, numerous oil, fuel and coolant hoses, muffler, plugs and wires and all fluids. The car has a new battery and brand new tires on all four corners. Most of the weather stripping in the hardtop, soft top, doors and trunk have recently been replaced. All parts came directly from Merceces-Benz. The car comes with two original Huff Mercedes-Benz keys, all of the original books, the owners manual, warranty book, dealer books, Becker radio book and the hardtop/softop book in their original Mercedes-Benz bag. The original spare tire is present, the jack, the original Mercedes-Benz tool roll and even the original label on the spare tire. This SL is in stunning condition and runs and drivers superbly. This SL has never been involved in an accident, clean and clear title with actual miles.
