Vehicle Detail

ATTENTION: This truck has been re listed due to previous fraudulent auction activity. I will not deal with anyone who has a questionable ebay record or low feedback score. I am offering a great truck at a fair price. 1955 GMC 100 2nd Series Pick up truck. This old beauty is a true survivor that is unmolested and all original. It is an Arizona vehicle with almost no rust. It was last registered in 1993, and was recently found in my neighbor's horse barn. Over the past few months, I have done minimal work to the truck, returning it to driving condition while maintaining its originality. I checked and adjusted the brakes, rebuilt the carburetor, had the seat reupholstered, replaced the passenger door glass, battery, plugs, wires, points, condenser, and fluids. Considering its age, I was really amazed at how smoothly the engine runs, how well it drives, and its overall good condition, down to the original wood planks in the bed! A little history on the 1955 GMC 100 2nd series Truck: In 1955 GM produced two models, the First Series and the Second Series. Production for ’55 First Series trucks were carryover designs from ’54, until the new Second Series was put into production to combat Ford’s radical 1953 Ford F-100. The midyear launch of the Second Series Pickup featured aggressive styling similar to that of the new passenger car models. This was GM’s most ambitious and complete product revision in the company’s history, and perhaps its most successful. Wraparound windshields and panoramic rear windows were a significant styling innovation, while the chrome front grill clearly has styling cues borrowed from the Cadillacs of the same vintage. The first year of the GM V-8 was 1955, and power for the truck comes from the original “GMC 317” V-8 engine (which is actually a Pontiac 316 at heart), fitted with a stromberg carburetor and a 4-speed granny gear manual transmission. The story behind how this particular engine wound up in the truck, however, is not so straight forward. GM had a plant the size of 4 acres, which at the time was the largest building of it’s type, that burned completely to the ground. The loss of this plant is why GM put Pontiac engines in their GMC trucks. The engine in this truck is a Pontiac 287, which GMC called a 288. The serial number on truck is 1018CY2666. Broken down: 10 is for half ton, 1 is for short wheel base (114 inches), the 8 stands for the V-8 engine, the C stands for Oakland (where it was assembled), the Y stands for 1955, and then 2666 is the sequence number. This rare, beautiful, and all-around cool truck is being sold as-is. The odometer shows 2,294.3, but the actual mileage is unknown. There is one spot of rust on the driver's side cab and the rear corner square tubing (as shown in pictures). The bed itself is not rusted. The Arizona title is clean (not salvaged), but that is the only documentation I have for the truck. Feel free to contact me through E-Bay with any questions, however please note that I am not interested in trades. Don't miss your chance to own a piece of history!
