Manufacturer's Warranty! Description Production of the Fiat 500 (or Cinquecento) began in 1957 and continued through until 1975. The hallmarks of the car included a diminutive size, an affordable price, reliable mechanicals and room for four. In 2007, on the 50th anniversary of the car’s introduction, Fiat again released a 500 model to much fanfare and general commercial success. The current iteration of the 500 comes in four basic style levels: Pop, Sport, Lounge and Abarth. The Abarth version carries a 1.4 litre, 4 cylinder turbocharged engine with variable “Multiair” technology. This technology segregates air flow into each cylinder which permits separate timing for each cylinder. The system uses hydraulic valve actuators and a solenoid that is energized with each rotation of the camshaft. This solenoid regulates that amount of oil that is sent to the actuator, which in turn controls the amount of lift. The end result of “Multiair” is that smaller displacement can produce more horsepower and greater efficiency. . Owing to Fiat’s ownership interest in Chrysler, the 500’s engine is actually built in Dundee, Michigan utilizing Fiat “FIRE” (Fully Integrated Roboticized Engine) technology. The engine produces roughly 130 horsepower in "normal" driving mode and 160 horsepower in Sport mode. Owing to its small displacement, great fuel economy and innovative “Multiair” technology, the engine was named “Best Engine of the Year” in 2010 and “International Engine of the Year” in 2011. The particular car for sale here is graced by red, leather front seat and black rear seats. The exterior is black with Abarth badging, ground effects, signature name and a rear wing. The paint on this car is exemplary and there are no major imperfections. Further, to my knowledge, the car has never been in an accident and has never had any panel(s) resprayed. The tires are like new as are the rims. The brake calipers are red and nicely match the red accented centercaps that are indicative of the Abarth styling. The interior of the car is comprised of very high quality components, arranged in a logical and easy to use fashion. The sound system in this car was manufactured by Beats Audio and includes a superb subwoofer which fills the cockpit with a resounding bass. CD’s can be played in the stereo system and there is a convenient storage niche designed to accommodate them on the center column.The car has interfaces for iPod/MP3/USB in the glove box which also holds the original owner’s manuals and associated papers. The car is also equipped with a Bluetooth interface and satellite radio. The seats are large and supportive and the interior can support four adult passengers. However, owing to the small rear seats, two adults and two children are the optimal number of passengers. The front seats are trimmed in luxurious, red leather which shows no signs of wear and are topped with Fiats innovatively round head rests. The most intriguing aspect of the car’s interior is its multi-gauge which is mounted behind the steering wheel. This gauge combines the speedometer, the tachometer, the odometer, and the on board computer display in one convenient location. This multi-gauge is very intuitive, is backlit in soft amber and permits monitoring of the entire car from one location. The car’s steering wheel is also multi-functioned giving the driver that ability to control the radio, the cruise control and the integrated Bluetooth interface. Finally, this car has the remaining balance of its 4 year, 50,000 mile manufacturers warranty which presents the buyer with virtually no risk of encountering major, mechanical problems. All in all, this car presents a tremendous value for the car-wise commuter. Its classic design, timeless color combination and modern mechanicals make it an extremely good car and an incredible bargain.
