Vehicle Detail
I bought this bike last summer. It was a complete and nice driver but did not have the original paint. I just had the bike professionally painted using the factory paint spec for a crazy amount of money. I planned to do a complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration. Well, times have changed and money is tight. I lost my garage space space. So, the bike had good bones to start with. I drove it home the day I bought it. Pulled hard, didnt smoke, started and stopped nicely. The previous owner replaced one of the dellortos on the right side with a new one instead of rebuilding the old one - not sure why but I have the original carb that goes with the bike. The voltmeter and clock, while looking nice, don't operate. Pretty typical. NOS and used ones do show up on ebay so I would have just shopped although personally I don't need them to work. I bought a 1975 cylinder head that I have not installed yet due to the fact that one cooling fin under the bike is broken. The head has the proper date stamp and is in great shape. Most of the bike is original. It has Koni rear shocks. It has what appears to be an aftermarket kickstand although I'm not sure why the previous owner replaced it. It works fine and might be heavier duty. The center stand is missing the toe tab which all break off in time. The engine casings are filthy and have oxidation. The exhaust headers have surface rust but the silencers are very nice and shiny. The tires are metzlers and are almost new. The seat is minty. All new badges. New BMW windshield and nice aftermarket smoked windshield included. I used simpler screw type windshield fasteners making changing or cleaning easier, however, will include the original button type fasters I bought when I planned to go the original route. Yuasa Battery is near new and strong. Any other bits I find will be included. Some oil leakage from pan. New gasket included. Be prepared for serious degreasing and polishing. Comes with krauser bags in good condition will add pics of those shortly. This bike is a rider as-is but I'd imagine you would want to spend some time with a toothbrush and polish to properly detail it. It could use new brake hoses as they are original and starting to look pretty dry although the brakes work fine. Speedo and Tach work well and register ±20k miles so I am inclined to believe 120K. I don't know any of the history of the bike. The prior owner found it in a barn and had it repainted in red from the original smoke silver. It is sold as-is in daily driver condition or you can take it to the next step and re-do all the mechanicals to make it a trailer queen. Sold as-is, no warranty and I can help with shipping is you have never done it before. I use Daily Direct usually. Also included is a shop manual, the factory original mirrors, and factory license plate reflectors. Email with plenty of questions as all sales are final. Low starting price. On Feb-28-14 at 09:29:25 PST, seller added the following information: The bags are BMW brand - not Krauser. They are solid and work well. However each has the typical stress crack which has been repaired - otherwise they are clean with no road rash and mount up nice and tight. See the pictures. Also just posted that this is a matching numbers original R90S - not a clone. You are welcome to fly in and drive it home but I'd be inclined to ship it having not taking it on any extended trips and can't vouch for reliability. The longest trip I put on it before disassembly to paint was 65 miles. Being that it is a BMW, not much could go wrong except oil seals blowing and electrical type issues - otherwise these are pretty bullet proof. I have been doing bikes a long time and have mostly dealt with vintage BMW and Ducati from the 1970s. While I like show bikes I prefer to keep all my bikes as drivers and therefore don't care that every detail is as it may have come from the factory.Having small modern modifications to increase reliability and drivability are important to me and usually I put braided SS lines on my bikes, modern ignitions, and suspension, and tires. I never got to do that with this bike but that was my next step. These R90S can be great bikes for the twisties when properly set up. Thanks for all the interest.
