Vehicle Detail
I have for sale a very good and very rare 1957 DeSoto Firesweep Sportsman 2-door hardtop. This one even has A/C. '57 DeSoto 2-door hardtops are very rare, especially with A/C. The car has an original 325 V-8 that sounds strong and working pushbutton automatic transmission. I believe the mileage to be correct at 38,523. There are oil change notes at 37,000 miles. The A/C compressor does have a belt on it and does turn. All A/C componets appear to be present and in good condition. All of the engine compartment components seem to be there. The car does run and drive, but the brakes need redone. The emergency brake does work and will stop the car. The waterpump leaks and will need rebuilt. I have not driven the car at highway speed. Tires are old. The pushbutton trans shifts good. The following do work: radio works great and clear out of original speaker, horn, all windows operate well, both doors-trunk lid-and hood open and shut solidly, the headlights work as do the turn signals, the heat and defrost fan blows, dome light, the guages worked the last time driven last October, I have started the car 2-3 times since. The body of the car is really darn good. Very little surface rust in places. The trunk floor is good as seen in the photos. I think the left front fender was replaced in the past with a genuine DeSoto fender. Much of the Coral paint does shine up. The underside does have the expected surface rust, but i haven't found holes. The door jams and sills are good. The chrome does shine pretty well, but is not perfect. The glass is good and for the most part very clear. Original hubcaps in good shape. I don't think there is anything missing on the car. The interior is actually pretty decent as well. The dash is nice and guages clear. Good door panels and very good headliner. The rear seat is in great shape, but the front seat has rips. No carpet. Needs front floor pans. Rear front floor seems OK. I have located a company that has the original seat covers and also one that reproduces the front floor pans. The steering wheel is also in decent condition. Overall, this very stylish 1957 DeSoto is not far from being a very nice daily driver or better. The Coral and white colors are very 50's and the fins and large 3-podded taillights are way cool!! Feel free to ask any questions. Sold in as-is condition. Personal inspection is available and encouraged.
