Vehicle Detail

Offered for auction is this 1979 Honda CBX. This machine is a low vin example from the first month of series production (April 1978). This bike has been off the road for almost 25 years, stored in a house. Before it was stored the engine was fogged with oil to keep things protected. A few years before I got it the bike was moved from inside the house to the back porch – where it was still out of the weather, but not out of the sun. So the original tank and tail section got faded. Too bad too because the paint was otherwise in very nice shape. The good news is that I found an NOS original paint tail section soon after I got the bike, which is mounted on the bike (see photos). This tail section is MINT, and no worries about the crack that the 1979 tail sections all seem to have. The real icing on the cake with this bike however, is that about 6 months before it was put into storage, an NOS factory exhaust system was installed on the bike. These are impossible to get anymore, and I’m sure you know what the repros are going for. But this one is the real deal, and I’m sure that there are some collectors out there that would consider buying this bike just to get that exhaust. I myself would not restore this bike - I think that it would really look good with just some selective upgrading of a few parts, in addition to a tank with better paint on it. Clear matching number title in my name. The original owner’s manual (also dated 4/78) came with the bike and is also included in the sale. Sorry but there was no tool kit on the bike. The two wheels don’t have any dents in them, and appear to be original to the bike (one is dated Feb. 1978, the other is April 1978). The only issue I noticed with the bike is that the ignition switch only moves one position when you turn the key. It may have broken internally, because the switch was also disconnected from the wire harness when I got the bike. I tried the keys in the tank lock and helmet lock and it is the right key, so you may have to swap out the switch for a new one. Please ask all questions before making any offers or purchases. The winning bid is not a first refusal on the bike to hold it while you think about it – so please have your finances lined up, and talk to your better half first too! J Overseas bids are welcome, but I can not help with any shipping estimates. Payment must be received within one week of end of auction, and the bike must be picked up/shipped within one month of end of auction. Good luck!
