Vehicle Detail
Offered at NO RESERVE This is a well-loved, unmodified, bone-stock Chevy Apache Fleetside half-ton that has had only two owners in its 54 years. It has less than 133,000 original miles and has been very well maintained, although the rust bug has begun to appear recently in typical spots (more on that later). It starts, stops, runs and drives really well. This Apache lived its first 40 years in Alabama and received a full restoration in approximately 1990, including new (original color) paint, new chrome, and an engine rebuild. The owner eventually passed away and his family sold it to me in 2000 with about 125,000 miles at the time. I have driven it an average of 500 miles a year since then, and have kept it garaged all but for one of those years. It makes the occasional run to Home Depot and recently brought home the Christmas tree. Features: Fleetside short-bed (six-ft.) Original two-tone paint scheme Small back window Original equipment (OE) heater (it really works!) Period-correct lap belts Bench seat professionally rebuilt with correct matching patterns and material Recently rebuilt starter; new exhaust, battery, water pump OE deluxe side mirrors (pass. side mirror still in box) Dash top in excellent shape, rubber floor mat replaced Bodywork Details: Make no mistake, this truck is stunning; but it does have a few flaws that should be corrected by the new owner. The early '90s repaint was done well: The door jambs were painted, but the dash still wears the factory original paint, so one can see that the color match was excellent. Alas, spots of rust began to appear only about a year ago in the typical places, such as at the base of both front fenders just ahead of the doors, and just past the driver’s door. (See pictures.) Small bubbles have appeared above the driver’s side headlight housing and beneath the gas cap. There is early surface rust along the vertical side seams of the bed (not rusted through). The tailgate is rusting from both sides. Lastly, the truck had a brief low-speed encounter with a retaining wall that did some damage to the passenger side bedwall; it mostly knocked paint off and is very repairable. Chrome is good, with a couple of "spots" but no dents. And finally, the paint job has sustained the usual unrusted scratches here and there. But that is about it. Meanwhile, the inner fenders are not only solid, but the original factory paint is still visible (see picture). The wheel arches are rust-free. The underside of the truck including the frame is very solid, while the original bed wood is weathered but also solid, both testaments to the truck’s light use and good maintenance. While I can’t dictate what a new owner will do, my preference is to sell to someone who wants to keep this truck original, as so few original two-tone Fleetsides have survived intact from the 1958-59 Apache era. A proper restoration of this truck would make it an enormously valuable investment. Not-So-Fine Print: Sold as-is, where-is, but I will work with the buyer to expedite shipping (especially with the holidays upon us). I will try to answer any questions, but the information above is as complete and relevant as I can offer. Offered at NO RESERVE, so every bid is an immediate commitment to buy!
