C'mon, Get Happy! 1972 VW WESTFALIA POP-TOP O ffered For Sale is a lovely Volkswagen Westfalia Campmobile Bus. It's in great condition - both cosmetically and mechanically. This campmobile features a sink, ice-box, folding bed, cabinets, dining table, new canvas pop-top tent, plus a list of other cool features! It's clean inside/out - you'll be impressed. The bus is a blast to own, drive, and explore nature with. This Westy is a real crowd-pleaser and it will make you and everyone else in its presence smile. It's ready to go; all it needs is a loving owner who appreciates these well-engineered and cleverly designed VWs...they're the original SUV! Over the decades, many VW Buses have unfortunately fallen prey to neglect, accidents, modifications, or were just simply driven into the ground. Not this example though; it's a survivor. After 40 years, this classic still rides proudly in the essential Volkswagen tradition of being a simple, well-engineered, and economical vehicle. Dash is simple, yet functional, just like every vintage VW. Speedometer and odometer work fine, though I believe the speedo reads faster than the actual speed you're going. Fuel gauge is a little temperamental; it comes and goes...most likely a faulty connection. The lights, horn, wipers, and radio/CD player work great; brake lights, too. Turn signals are currently not working. Visors and windshield are in great condition. Window trim features expensive new seals and rubber. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture The interior is clean, with original VW seats, fabric, rubber mats, etc. 40+ year old seats show some wear, but still look fine. Dash pad looks wonderful, and doesn't have any cracks on the top. Heating is minimal, which is typical for these old buses, however, the vent levers slide up/down to allow fresh air in through the vents. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture Dinette of the camper is clean. There's plenty of room for passengers and cargo, whether you're just going away for a day at the beach or on a long camping excursion. Curtains are new; so is the wood floor. All rear cushions were reupholstered and haven't even been broken-in. This includes the rear cargo area, bench/bed, and the jump seat behind the driver. It looks fabulous! This is quite a cozy setting, indeed. All we need is a bottle of wine and some candles. Note the working cabin light. Rear seat transforms in a matter of seconds to a folding bed....and a room with a view! ............ There's lots of closet and cabinet space inside this Westy. Plus, the open air versatility is quite impressive. Click on the Images for Larger Picture You can almost smell the salt-air of the ocean and hear the waves as they crash upon the rocks. Click Above for a Demonstration ............... All the comforts of home: wood accents, tables, a sink (with functional hand pump), ice box, and plenty of storage space. Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............... ** Ice-box is complete and "sanitary." Even the shelf, which usually is long gone, is still present here. ** Hand pump dispenses water from reservoir tank; it comes in handy when cleaning up at the campsite. This bus is a self-contained camper that's unique and very functional. The fun you'll experience is beyond words, and something you will have to find out for yourself. Pop-top opens easily, offering walk-around versatility and fresh air when out camping. Canvas material and screens for tent have been replaced and are new. .................. If you're cold or just want some privacy, the canvas shades can be zipped up to accommodate your mood. Click on the Images for Larger Picture .................. Factory Westfalia accessories like the roll-up hammock/front cot and the insect screen for the rear hatch are still intact. Both are simple, yet effective conveniences that add to the charm of these VW Campmobiles. Rear tent window unzips to allow access to the roof. All dressed up and everywhere to go. ...kkkkkkkpp..... .........lll....... Panels show a nice reflection, and the body is quite straight, taking age and use into consideration. Since it's a "driver," there are some small flaws here and there, but definitely nothing to fret over. There are no signs of dents or accidents that I can see. The bus sits straight and even, and the stance is "right" on. Paint was done recently, and as you can tell, it looks sharp! The finish is thick, and it exudes a nice reflection. The body panels, undercarriage, and frame are solid. There is no corrosion on the bus, as it was from a dry, desert area in California. Click on the Images for Larger Picture .........lll....... The "pancake" VW engine was introduced in 1972 for the buses. This motor is very reliable and was claimed by the previous owner to have been rebuilt. It features an external oil-cooler and an electronic fuel pump, to assist with the demands of modern traffic and driving conditions. To make tune-ups simple, there is a single Weber carburetor installed. All tires are new - incl. the spare. This bus is a pleasure to drive. Motor starts instantly, even when cold, and there is No Smoke. Even the idle is smooth and quiet. This will be displayed in a short YouTube video shown below. Steering is tight; no shimmies or shaking. Gearbox is fine; shifting is effortless, and there's no popping out of any gear. In fact, a new clutch cable was just installed. Brakes operate easily and the VW comes to a stop without any issues. Take a Test Drive! Click on YouTube video Above A classic VW Bus presents a good value and opportunity in the world of collectible automobiles, as they are quite sought after, especially if it's a Westfalia pop-top, like the one offered here.
