Vehicle Detail

1985 BMW 635CSi I went over to San Diego a few weeks ago to see/buy an old Cadillac Eldorado convertible. The car matched the pictures, but sadly it's mechanical condition had been grossly overstated by the seller. Great ... a 250 mile round trip for nothing, right? That's what I was thinking when I just happened to notice that the neighbor a few doors down had this beautiful 6-series in the driveway with a for sale sign in the window. I've always thought the 6-series was seriously sexy, I already had a tow truck standing by for the Cadillac, and the guy made me a deal I couldn't refuse ... so here we are! The car starts, runs, drives and stops just fine. The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears. The exhaust is a little noisier than it should be, but I have no idea why or what part of it might be making the noise. The only paperwork that came with the car was an oil change receipt from early May of this year. The odometer and tach don't work ... the speedo does. I didn't take it to a mechanic since all I really wanted to do was clean it up a bit and toss it on ebay. If you're interested enough to pop for a mechanical assessment, I'll be happy to take it to the mechanic of your choice (here in Palm Springs, that is.) According to the AutoCheck that comes with this listing, it's been a California car since day 1, which explains the total absence of rust anywhere. This car is a classic "20 footer." If you're a collector or particularly picky, then this one's probably not for you. It's a classic daily driver with plenty of nicks, dings and even a small dent or two. I've taken almost 100 pics showing not just the good, but the not so good, as well. Problem: apparently ebay has a new rule forbidding external links, so I can't share my google photo album here. If you contact me through the "ask the seller a question" feature, they'll let me send you the link. I've driven it around town 20-25 miles over the past week, but never went over 45mph ... which is hard to do in this car because it really wants to move! Why so slow, you ask? It's sporting an absolutely ancient set of Michelin tires and I'm just not wanting to roll the dice at highway speeds. I mention this because if you're thinking of driving it home, you'd better plan to put fresh tires on it ... or better yet, have it delivered. Now that the scorching desert heat has gone away and our beautiful "top down" weather has returned, I really want another Eldorado convertible to tool around town in for the season. Were this not the case, I think I'd hang on to this beauty and freshen it up a little. Basically, I'd have it mechanically sorted, then give it a mid-range re-paint. Basically, I'd like ebay to bring me the guy (or gal!) out there ... probably back east ... who loves 635's but is on a budget and would be excited to have this as a daily driver, or perhaps a weekender. I know you guys might have questions on things I haven't gone over or don't know the answers to. Because of this, I'd be more than happy to do a "walk-around" on the phone with anyone seriously considering this great car. Just contact me through the "ask the seller a question" feature and we'll go from there. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
