      1996 Chevrolet Caprice       9C1 Police Package         Up for bid is a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 9C1 Police Package. This vehicle has a BAD engine (with loud knock inside). Still a great looking low-mileage cruiser, with only 83,000 miles. Has LT1 Police issue 5.7L V8 engine starts right up, BUT has a metal noise/knock. This car is tow-away (engine runs enough to load on trailer no problem, just a bolt or rod is loose in the engine somewhere, so it is not driveable for distance)/ Will require engine work. It has a slow oil leak, just a couple drops per day when driven. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly through the gears   and without any slippage. Power   options on the car include power windows & locks, power seats, and very cold A/C. It also has tilt   steering, cruise control, factory AM-FM, certified calibrated speedometer and remote deck lid   release. The digital speedometer on the dash fades out sometimes, will need to be taken out and cleaned contacts (common problem with these cars). This car has the rare Grey interior, so it can easily be made into an Impala SS or Caprice SS.       The exterior of this car has some dings/ touch-ups expected with police use and age. The car has no rust, but there is minor bondo work on the right doors and paint touch ups all over from little dings and paint loss. In general the car looks nice but there are obvious spray touch ups mainly on the right side and rear bumper (see pics).  I still have all of the original molding for the doors/sides i will put in trunk. Tires have an estimated 70% tread left.       The grey interior is in good condition.  Working dome light, and Working back doors and windows. The dash has a 3" crack near the defrost vent, where Caprice dashes always crack. The headliner has a few little wear spots/rips. The front seats are  in good condition with dual power!  The rear view mirror has two working map lights.  Original grey carpet in good condition mostly, the driver's side floor is worn (see pic). In the trunk, a full-size spare tire with jack, also a spare donut tire included too.       It was a Police car for the City of Fort Collins, Colorado, and they only put 48,000 miles on it. My family bought it from the city in 2005 and have been driving it daily since; it was a great car until about 4 months ago it developed a minor knock, 2 months ago the knock became the loud metal knock that makes it undriveable.
